At first I thought the rough shifting was associated with the drop in temperatures and car just needed to warm up, but car really clunks hard when it shifts especially from 1st to 2nd gear at low speeds. Car only has 79k miles on it btw if that affects input on issue.
Flush not just a drain and replace? (Sorry I've heard both recommendations is why I ask) I'll do more searches on what transmission fluid as my mechanic's computer couldn't find it. I'm hoping there is a non-Mercedes equivalent out there.

Of course the car drove today and the shifting was normal (frustrating to an extent). Please post again what you find out on your inspection of the valve plate Pjmak. I'll do the same after I complete a couple of other small jobs if it acts up again.
Are either of these ok? These came up on autohausaz.com when I did the search. Coincidentally enough the valvoline one is used as my power steering fluid on my daily driver which is an Infiniti I30t, but I know I can't use the valvoline on as my power steering fluid on my 96 C36 as it's has NON-synthetic power steering fluid requirements. Please advise if you guys have used either of these in picture for transmission fluid on 96 c36.
