Check engine light, HELP

I have a 1998 C43 with 77K miles.
Bought the car when it had 75K miles. Now here's what's happening to the car. A week ago the CEL light came on. I reseted the computer and everything is fine. Only then I found out that my gas cap was BARELY closed. Understandale = this caused CEL.
Then after about 800 miles the CEL came on again and this time everything was fine. The cap was closed. Everything worked perfectly, car didn't go to limp mode, I floored it on the highway, again everything was great, except for that stupid light.
I reset the computer again and now after 150 miles the light comes on again. Car drives as it always has. No difference at all
So my question is, what could've triggered the CEL the last two times? Deffinitely not engine misfire as everything is the way it has been always.
Maybe my oxygen sensor is almost done?
Thanks,

"Limp Home" is where it cuts down on half the amount of cylinders working. It pretty much forces you do drive slow and prevent damage to the engine because the computer thinks there's something wrong internally so it cuts your power.

As for the CEL, resetting it and coming back definately means there's a problem somewhere. It's probably nothing affecting drivability, which could be the O2 sensors. Usually those are common and don't do anything to drivability. It may cut down your gas mileage.

If it was the MAF sensor, then it usually gives rough idle and limp home while driving.

I would check out the O2 sensors.

So from what I understand, if the MAF was faulty the engine wouldn't accelerate past certain rpms? Mine goes to the redline as usual.
I'll prob go to Autozone or the the dealership to check out the fault code

Thanx

I haven't heard of that yet...it may be possible, but most common with MAF is just bogged down acceleration, hesitation. It still goes, just not as much "oomph".
