some guy on an archived club202 said he was running 18x8.5 et35 and 18x9.5 et35 on his 98 c280, so should fit. i might have to use a spacer if im unhappy with how far it sticks out (our front fenders are flared) but i should be able to get it on there. will have pictures in a few days probably. already ordered the rims not the tires yet, maybe today.

I missed out on his spacers, it will rub on the outside.
maybe he had a 12 gauge installed to his wheel well or something similar?
my phone crapped out and i couldn't get to the pictures, but after fitting the wheels with tires and reviewing the fitting chart from alloywheelsdirect, i think im going to fit 10mm spacers on the front and rear, although they actually fit as is. just seems a bit tight for me. what do you guys think?
also i read that you have to be careful with the oem bolts as they could extend too far out and can cause problems with the parking brake. i measured the bolt on the OEM wheels and they stuck out about 3/4" (~19mm), on the new wheels they stick out 1 1/4" (~32mm) so even with a 10mm spacer the bolts would extend 22mm. I read that the bolts usually extend 15 to 17 mm. can anyone confirm if 22mm is too long?
guessing the bolts should be M12x1.5 35MM if I can get them. I'd hate to have to go to a machine shop and cut the OEMs (M12x1.5 ~40MM) down.
also i am not 100% on if the seats are ball or cone. the oem R12 fit in there but there is a lot of play when they are seated. it could be because the hole is big enough for and R14 shank (but the seat is definitely not big enough for R14 head - honestly, im not even 100% sure the R12 is sitting in there right, but the seat really looks round to me, not cone)
It sure looks round to me. Just to be sure, I would use a lite coat of oil in there and use silly putty or plumbers putty around a thick piece of wire to make a mold of the hole. This way, you can take exact measurements for the required hardware, not guesstimates.

thanks for the great advice. i am fairly certain it is ball seat but it will be nice to measure it.
ive ordered the 10mm spacers and 12x1.5x35mm bolts. hopefully can have this sorted by wed or thurs.
I cut my OEM lugs down on my bench with a grinder..20 min job.
The OEM lugs are beautiful with those high hats. I snapped one a few days ago, guilty of not using a torque wrench and over tightened. Anyway, I was looking to buy a replacement and found out MB isn't making them anymore. I think febi was making them, but I just can't figure out how to get them, parts guy at my local MB dealer said they aren't around anymore.
They are selling for pretty high on ebay. Cheapest was a complete set of 20 for $50, otherwise they are like $10 a pop. Very tempted to buy, but at the same time don't think I'll be using OEM rims any time in the near future. I have my 18 monos up on ebay and plan on putting my 17 monos up for sale too.
Yeah, I have to work out the suspension soon. Yours looks great!

Have you tried looking with Alloywheels? They seem to have everything wheels related and offer great service. OK they are in the UK but who knows....
I purchased a new set of bolts from that company to replace the OEM ones on my 43 and which rust just looking at them no more rust and still look new after several years use. I also purchased 4 locking bolts at the same time.

new front spacers finally got here today. they somehow go over the front dustcap where the ones pictured above would not. the new ones look like hats, they are also 10mm. didnt take a picture of them though.
so heres what she looks like with the new shoes. they stick out a bit and i think i had some rubbing but not 100& sure. i had the trunk loaded with 2 wheels with tires, a hydraulic jack and a tool box and 2 more wheels with tires in the back seat so.
