New Mobil1 oils

Just noticed that Mobil1 comes in two new varieties, Both are fully synthetic and meet MB-Approval 229.3 or 229.5 requirements:
  1. FS X2 5W-50
  2. FS 0W-40
The FS X2 has a 5/5 star rating and the second is rated at "only" 4.6/5
The FS must be similar to the older Long Life 0W-40 which we know and use.

As I purchase my oil stock in bulk (20lt at a time), I tried getting the new FS X2 but it's not yet available. I like the 5W-50 as the 50 rating is higher temp resistant which is what I want in my hot summer climate driving.

Any comments or have people some experience with these new oils?

can you explain to me what type of oil should i use? I only use mobil 1 0w-40 right now but i live in Florida and i am not easy on my car. I noticed at ~7500 miles my car was running rough so i changed the oil and it was BLACK so now im gonna start changing my oil at 5000 but should i use a 5w-50 like you said? what determines what oil i should use? thanks!

If it's black you must have plenty of sludge in the engine. I would flush more often changing the filter too. This could be a sign that the previous owner used a cheap oil and sludge built up over time. Also perhaps he didn't change oil often.
If you live in Florida, I would recommend the 5w50. Better resistance at high temps even if the 0w40 should also be sufficient.

i use the standard stuff 0/40 and my last 8 quarts were from fcp euro so free oil aside from return shipping, but i have a bunch of things to ship to them so will do all in one shot! im actually really excited about exchanging it, let you know if it is a smooth process.

and yeah you should def not wait 10k miles to change oil, black or not.

Any idea what makes the new FS 0W-40 better/different than 0W-40 most of us use now?
