C36 (1995) Remote Key Fob Manual
Hey people. Never owned an MB before let alone an AMG but pleased to say my C36 arrived today. 1995 Azurite Blue, 59602 documented miles, 2 previous owners, dealer and independent service history, 3 keys, all manuals.
So pleased with the car but the IR remote key fobs had me running in circles for a while this evening. I tried the main fob, which was clearly the most used, to lock/unlock the doors. It took me a while to realise that the IR receiver wasn't in the door handle like the early R129s I'd been looking at but even when I pointed at the rear view mirror receiver it would only work if I pressed really really hard. Luckily I had a supply of new CR2025 batteries so I swapped what I thought was the dead cell for a new one.....still the same issue. Only working when I pressed real hard.
Next step...try the virgin second fob which looked like it had never been used. It worked first time, easy no problem, but the door handle and the rear view mirror were flashing green and red lights like crazy after I locked or unlocked using this fob. At this point I'm like wtf so I opened this barely used second fob and it had two CR2025 cells piggy-backed together in there. I've never seen this before but it made clear why the first fob wasn't working so I put 2 new cells in the first fob and BAM..working perfectly.
At this point I thought I better read the manual to find out why the red and green lights were flashing when I used the second fob to lock/unlock the car. Should have done this earlier I guess cos the manual tells me this is the low fob battery warning so when I put two new CR2025s in the fob it works perfectly.
At last..two fobs each with two new batteries inserted and everything works amazing with no flashing.
I had a look round the forum and couldn't see it so I thought I would post a scan of the original remote locking manual which explains all the details of using the IR fobs (synchronizing, using with flat battery, how to jump start etc)
Maybe this can help new owners without manuals avoid all my IR shenanigans.
