Hi guys. I have an early ‘96 C36 with the 4 spd tranny. I have the Autel Maxidiag Elite MD802 as well as the 38 pin adapter. It doesn’t recognize the model by vin nor is the C36 model present under the model selection. I scan it as a C280 but it only reveals an ac issue. Will only a Star System diagnostic tool work on a pre ‘97 C36?

The check engine light is present and it is running rough at idle as it is missing. If I apply a heavy throttle, it becomes worse and if I come to a complete stop, it starts shaking. If I turn the ignition off and back on, it runs better but the engine still misses. Before I start replacing plugs, coils, etc., I was curious if anyone else has had these issues and what the cause and or causes were. The car was running fine before I replaced the water pump and thermostat with no warning lights present. I also replaced the air filter with a K&N as I read that the K&N is fine on the C36 unlike the C43. Any input and advice is greatly appreciated!

Would you happen to know if theiCarsoft Multi-system Scanner i980 for Mercedes will work? If not, I'll start with replacing the plugs before I take it to the stealership for a scan.

Is your harness not disintegrating? This was a problem on certain MY for 36's I believe and solved with the later models
