Tapping Noise?
Hey Guys,
I’ve owned my ‘95 C36 for around 7-8 yrs; I purchased the car @ 101k and it now has 145k. I feel as though the engine has always displayed a tapping sound at idle. I remember reading a while back it had to do with the tappet lifers but that it could potentially be the timing chain or tensioner. The car runs fine and the sound goes away upon acceleration. I only ask because I recently had the safety inspection renewed and the person inspecting the car inquired about the sound.
My car is not this loud, but I included a clip which appears to replicate the sound:
.
Does your car sound similar at idle?
Cheers,
-Rob

The sound I get is definitely not that audible. Might be best to upload a clip of the sound. My car had servicing at the dealership quite a few times in my ownership and they never mention anything about it. I’m so used of it, I believe it’s the inherent nature of the M104.
