Wiring Harness
Where, under the hood, is it located? What does it look like? When physically inspecting the harness, will I be able to tell if it needs to be replaced?
I've heard so many problems about the wiring harness, especially in my vehicle, 1995 C36, that I can't help being a little concerned about its condition. No performance problems yet (other than a little rough idle during warm up that I hope to remedy with a plug and maybe coil end change) but I would like to avoid problems with the wiring harness.
Drags
The harness is the WHOLE wire under the hood. Spark Plug, EFI, ignition, computer and so on.
Remove the the plastic cover that covers the spark plug and the spark plug wire seems to have flaky white powder all over it, then unfortunately you have one of the old one that is about to fall apart.
That is exactly what happen to mine. Little bit of mis-fire at high RPM. I open the cover to check plug, all the insulator on the wire start to fall apart as I try to pull the plug wire....... Little bit became major, and my C36 switch onto limp mode. (Computer diagnose 1 cylinder mis-fire).
The local MB shop charged me $1200 for parts (AMG specific) and approx $260 for labor. According to STAR Net, there are just few new C36 Wireharness set in US now. The shop did excellent job and my car is running nice and strong!
