C36 Paint and Rust Removal

So, I've done it. I have decided to repaint my 1996 C36. The car had several rust areas and the paint was not great. I thought I would share some pics throughout the process. My goal is to get it back to showroom quality.

nice!! looks like your car spent a lot of its life on the east coast here in the rust belt. How much did you pay to get all the rust repaired and the fresh repaint??

Thanks! The car did spend most of its life in Illinois, but as you know, they were already prone to rust. This is a forever car for me, so while the cost to repair the rust and repaint the entire car is around the same cost as the car, I feel as though it is worth it in the long run.

ahhhh she’s a keeper good to hear my friend! funny thing is I’m currently texting someone about possibly working out a deal with a 97 c36. Only problem is the transmission doesn’t go into gear. Seller has a rebuild kit but in all seriousness it looks like a service kit to me conductor plate, seal, filter and connector sleeve. a 5 speed manual would sound like a plan if I acquired this c36! It needs paint work as well but seems to be pretty rust free. Love seeing people put work into these cars!!! Keeps another one on the road and away from the graveyard. Saw a c36 listed on Craigslist’s southern Cali for $6,500 I believe. Milage was over 350k it’s common to see a c43 or c36 with over 200k on the dash.

Just had my 99' c43 rust repaired with a full paint job over the winter. Also went for a ceramic body and interior protection.

Mine is certainly a keeper even if it is getting close to 300k km, but it still runs like a freight train and brings a smile to my face every time I get to drive her.

Nice....As a keeper, ensure your bodyman grinds down very well the cancer areas (this only cleans up and slows it down) AND even check the other side and treats it correctly with the correct primer coat. There is no permanent solution for car cancer other than to cut the section out. I'd even go as far as saying "treat the inners of your door panels, etc since you've got it stripped and naked".

GL. keep us posted.
