Please let me know if I am wrong but this is what I am coming up with based on a quick research.

There are 1.6 million w202 cars produced in the world so that means 1.6 million vin numbers.

One part that separates the models is this number below:

WDBHA33xxxxxxxxxx

First five letters is always the same unles its a stationwagon.

33=c43
36=c36
29=280
24=c230

I am not sure about other models.

Now the last six digits of the vin indicates the order this w202 car came off the assembly line overall from all w202s.

My last six digits are 709427 so my car was w202 number 709427 off the production line. That just categories it as a w202 not solely as a c43.

In order to find some of the first production c43s wed need the lowest possible number(six digits).

Wasnt there a c43 press car??Does anyone have any info?

If your last six digits are 599000 that means its w202 number 599000 out of 1.6 million but it doesnt mean its not the first c43.

I found a list of one thousand WDBHA33 vins and the lowest one was this number below:

WDBHA33G3WF666655

Obviously I dont have all c43 vins but out of a thousand I found thats the lowest one and it sure is a 98 model.

Hope this makes sense.

My other 98 c43 is 695009

So far the last six are consistent with the years. The older the car the lower the number

My VIN is WDB2020331F8431831. From what I recall the F means it was manufactured/assembled in Bremen, like most if not all C43's. I believe the N. American vehicles didn't use the WDB202033 identification for W202's and C43 but can't be 100% certain. I used this number to pull out the vehicle info from the factory data card via EPC. The car was delivered from the factory on March 3, 1999 and road registered on March 16, 1999.
