1999 C43 OPINION Mileage

OK I'm soon to be the proud owner of a 1999 C43.
My Dilema is this, both are perfect cars but one will have a starmark 2 year warranty and the other wont.
Heres the breakdown:

1999 White/Black Loaded with 57000 miles: $24K with full starmark warr for 2 years or UP TOO 100K miles (43K in this case).

1999 Silver/Black Loaded with 34,000 miles: $25 but no warranty.

AM I better with the highr mileage car due to the extra protection or should I stay away from a 57000 mile C43???

Kelly,Galves and Edmunds all put these cars at $26-27.8 with no warranty...so not sure if I'm doing well or if all the 'books' are full of crap.

Either way I hope to have one to drive the **** out of very soon :-)

The lower mileage car sounds nice but I would lean towards the one with the warranty. I purchased a C36 six months ago and so far the AC compressor, receiver/drier, and both front seat covers have been replaced (heater elements were bad). I can't imagine what the cost would be if I had to pay for the repair.

def go for the starmarked! remember if you are buying from a non-mb dealer the starmarked will be void. Only private party and MB dealers can transfer the warranty.

-Thank you

great feedback. Tinight I sent an email and sealed the deal on the 99 with the higher miles.
Thanks for the extra bit of insight.
Look forward to talking with you guys again, when I'm all settled in with my C43 beastie.
Almost went for the new C55 but when I looked at that car and the C43 I realized I just wanted a 'sleeper' 4 door that can carve corners and be a greenlight surprise to many "Honey what kind of car just spanked you so hard of that last light???"

dude, if u can afford the C55 i def say go for it! The W202 chassis dynamics and interior styling can't compare to the freshened W203 imo.

With respect

I disagree. The C43 has classic MB lines and looks the way I think (opinion) a MB should look. Besides this way I can still sell my SMG M3 convert and buy my neighbors 996 Turbo I've had my eye on.

For me the 99 C43 is the perfect blend of power, stealth, classic lines. It also allows me to drive the **** out of it and park it where I need to for the line of work I'm in.

1999 C43 OPINION Mileage

Good choice on getting the car with warranty. My OB C43 is still in the repair shop for starting and electrical problems. I also had to change the tranny, AC compressor, MAF, fuel level sensor, etc. I should have extended the warrany when I had the chance. I wish that I just traded it in for a C32 or extended the warranty when it hit 50K miles. On the other hand (cross my fingers), my silver C43 I extended the warranty and it has not had any repairs other than a leaky differential and dead battery because I let it sit for too long. I thought I would be able to maintain low mileage as a collector's item, but I'm going to end up driving it more.

The best thing that I like about C43's is they're definitely stealthy.

By the way, make sure you change your tranny fluid and if you're going to use aftermarket polymer activated air filters (e.g. RamAir FX), don't put too much fluid. It'll screw up the MAF.

The difference between the 2 C43's is the Obsidian Black received numerous modifications (suspension and engine) while the silver one is all stock. The silver one is definitely going to out last the OB one.

As soon as I get the car out of the shop, I'm going to sell it or trade it for a G55 (need a family car). I'm definitely going to miss it.
