C36 Amg cooling maintenance and oil leak fix

What’s up dudes It’s been a while since I put something up here. With the stay at home order In New York things have been slow here and I’ve just been home. With my free time I did some wrenching with my pops to my C36 in April so I thought I’d share. Previous owner was religious on the oil changes but not the antifreeze I guess . The tank was pure green until driving the car around for a few days, I opened it up and discovered a brown hint to it! At first I thought it was head gasket time but really it was really old antifreeze. Anyway I did a flush and a week after that my radiator starting to leak on me. Guess the previous owner or his mechanic threw some stop leak in there! Held up 24 years so time for a new one! While I was refreshing the cooling system I figured I would do the water pump and pulley, upper and lower hose, new coolant reservoir, thermostat, valve cover gasket, timing chain “U” shaped gasket and cover reseal, power steering flush, and got my valve cover powdercoated black. After chasing air in my cooling system for a day my firewall heater pipe connection fell apart on me. Replaced it and of course I topped it off with the Proper MB blue stuff 50/50 mixed with distilled water. Also did a mini paint detail with a buddy of mine. Clay bar, Buffed, waxed and polished. Car has been awesome since then now i have to look into replacing shocks and working on an air ride kit Also by the way whoever worked on this car before I can kill! The amount of RTV used on the timing gasket and the half crescent shaped gaskets for the back of the valve cover were absolutely unbelievable. Both were straight drenched in RTV . Shame some people don’t have respect for these cars.

water pump replacement was a pain in the a$$ due to the placement of the 2 bottom bolts securing the pump to the side of the block. Top 2 bolts are easy but the bottom are 2 impossible to see bolts and 1 stripped on me! luckily still got it out with just a size bigger standard socket.

C36 Chilling next to my buddies awesome bagged 01 e55 Amg

Very nice but a touch of lowering would make it look perfect IMO

oh yes that’s a must ! My old c230 was lowered on h and r and Bilstein shocks. So is my current e55 W210 daily so I know the deal with lowering the Benz. But for this one I might get hooked up on a deal for an air ride kit. Always wanted a Benz on air and the w202 is my favorite chassis so why not.

Air ride on a w202? Never heard that existed, not unless it's being done bespoke

oh yes sorry let me clarify it’s going to be a custom kit that’s pieced together. My buddy from California has a c43 with a 55 swap and he’s selling me the kit out of it since he wants to go back to springs and shocks.

What would you like to know specifically ? All these tasks weren’t too hard it was just very time consuming. Having a helping hand will make things a bit easier too
