Engine refresh or keep for parts?

A bit over a year ago I bought a C43 for parts with a very healthy engine. It leaks quite a bit but it worked great. My question is: Should I keep it just for parts or should I take the time to do a good maintenance on it (so making it a good replacement unit) since they are becoming harder to find? I was leaning towards a parts engine but the value is going up so I am reconsidering my choice.

I would think it depends on the miles the engine has. Might be worth some work if you want to keep the 43 in original condition. Most people go for a 55 engine which give a nice chunk of extra power but it's no longer in original shape. Just my 2p though...

I would consider going to a 55 engine for my personnal car but I'm mostly thinking about purists who might want a replacement engine for their C43. The engine has 150k miles.
