Check those under hood drain holes. They can cause a mess
Mine were plugged when I got the car which caused some mess in there and jammed up my ac blower fan.
Basically when washing the car or when it rains, the water cant drain properly, instead it leaks into the cabin through the ac fan.
Replaced everything down there including the passanger carpet.
Got a used fan in great shape. Blows like a beast. Also replaced the metal plate where the feet go together with the modules that bolt to the back of it. Most of this I did when I got the car but the fan I did today.

Yikes guess what happened is a good reminder to all w202 owners to check the water drains at least once a year. Poke some wire gently down each hole then flush with plenty of water.
Good find PJ.My car has been garaged since i bought it in 2005.But im going to double check these.I can see the ones coming through the top the wheelwells as well.
Did you find any rustholes on the floor after removing floor mats and the protective steel plate?
Rust on floor comes from clogged water drains and the filled with crap compartment on passengers side firewall.
