first, find the tensioner pivot bolt. it's a big reverse-hex head bolt (10mm I think) that is located between the power steering pulley and water pump pulley. it won't look like much but it will be a bigger, obvious looking bolt. loosen it 5-10 turns. it's very long so don't worry about accidentally removing it.
then, that tall bolt sticking up to the left of the power steering reservoir, that's the tension bolt. I THINK it's reverse, meaning tightening it will loosen the belt, and loosening it will tighten the belt. be sure you've loosened the pivot bolt or you will strip this adjusting rod/bolt set up and be in big trouble.

I saw this photo in another forum and wanted to share with you. A first and third generation 'C' AMG get together.
This is the UK's special 507 edition, with upgraded power and LSD. It's an estate/wagon version.
