That's very kind of you! Thank you very much sir!

Weird question: Do you think 3000rpm is high on 80mph speed? Or should I expect this for a high performance car like this?

I forgot to rule out if you don't have C43..... Do you? Engines have to be identical for you to make that comment.

Thank you

my 32 cruise 80mph at around 3000rpm. 36, 43, and 32 all have different gear ratio, so can't really compare, but 3000rpm for you sounds normal.

The gearing and the rear diff ratio are the same.
and before I got my C36, I've driven C43 as well..

Here is the 1997 C36 driveline specification
1st: 3.59:1
2nd: 2.19:1
3rd: 1.41:1
4th: 1.00:1
5th: 0.83:1
axle ratio: 3.07:1
final-drive ratio: 2.55:1
Engine rpm, 60mph in top gear: 2250

And Here is the technical spec from MBUSA.

for C43

final drive ratio. . 3.07
1st gear. . 3.59
2nd gear. . 2.19
3rd gear. . 1.41
4th gear. . 1.00
5th gear. . 0.83

For the record the MBUSA website AMG Model for 1995-1997 C36 is incorrect. 95 and 96 C36 has 4 speed transmission and 1997 C36 has the same gearing as C43 (electronic 5 speed).

There you have it.

Hello guys again! Since I am not a TECH GURU or MECHANIC, i did not understand anything about the gear ratio. There are probably more than 10 people that drives this C43 like me. All I wanted to know was if their C43's rpm is the same speed while cruising @ 80mph. Simple as that. Also I thank you for all of your comments and advices. That means a lot to me. We are all here for that reason anyways right?

Take care

Yes to the latter. It is a 'tad' high if compared to a luxury car / land yacht -- right were you want it for a hi-performance car on the highway. At that speed the engine is right in the start of the 4.3L's torque peak range and you have nice pick-up from there if you sqeeze the throttle a little w/o needing a downshift. As we all know these cars were designed to perform -from- that speed after all. (not designed for our restrictive speed limits) I find with the 4.3L it's great too from 70-80mph to about 130-135mph range. Will go up to 155mph but it needs a lot of road to get there.

Don't have a Mercedes right now...
I checked mine the other day, yes it is around ~3000 at 80 mph, it could be just a hair less if your not accelerating.

Hi Staplegun,

Thanks for answering my question - I was just curious.

Yours looks good in white - in UK the vast majority were silver with a handful in black or dark blue. Looks like you got a wider colour choice in US (or maybe yours was special order)

Angus London, sorry I didn't. I don't check in on this thread often enough apparently.
If they sold them here, I'd be sure to have one.
