C43 - Tranny - D, D4, D3

This might be a dumb question, but someone was telling me that I should not be driving in th "D" position around the city because it is an overdrive and should be used only on the highway. Any thoughts? What do you guys use?

I drive in D4 in the city, D on the freeway. When I want to have fun, it varies.

that was something that came up when automatic hondas had those "OD" buttons where u could turn on and off back in the 80s and 90s... something similar to "OD on on freeway and OD off in city"... can't remember y tho.. was it shiftpoints that were different and mileage vs power type of thing? can't remember..

It is funny that you should mention Hondas / Acura because they have had problem with their tranny's and this is one of their explanantions. I have a Honda Odyssey and they had to replace the tranny a little while back. I am going to try D4 around the city.
What is the speed limit in D4?
Is that going to cause any premature wear?
I wonder if this contributes to any of the C43 tranny failures.

really? my gf's accord needed to be replaced (2 year, under warranty) because the bearings in there were not correct...something that is apparently obvious to the honda service ppl. told me there's an apparent faulty tranny who supplied honda the tranny.. grinding type of noise...

it should say in ur manual? i think some cars have the 5th overdrive for economy, and the 4th actually provides higher top speed than 5th..something like the corvette used to do that...
