2017 AMG C43
Paint chip on the front of the hood.

Two months in, my cardinal red C43 coupe has a good sized paint chip missing due to highway debris.

Dealer said to buy a bottle of touch-up paint from them and apply several light coats with the applicator.

I've done this before to other cars and frankly, it really doesn't look very professional.

Anyone have a better way short of taking the car to a body shop?

Thx in advance.

I don't think there's much you can do. The only way to really fix it is re-painting the whole hood, which obviously doesn't make sense. So get the touch-up paint and cover the whiteness. You can ask a shop to do it for you.

The exact thing happened to my car as well and it pushed me to Xpel wrap the front of the car!

Another member on the board had a similar crisis not too long ago, and it was also cardinal red paint. He had some creative solutions for covering the chip, including decals and hood jewelry sourced from eBay. Many on the board advised him to bite the bullet and pay for a hood respray. His solution however was to trade out of his c450 into a c43 in the same color.

Because of the paint chip, maybe I'll upgrade to a C63s when I get to 3000 miles

I'm only suggesting that it would not be unprecedented for you to do something along those lines.
Welcome to the board. When you get some free time you should do a search a do some remedial reading through the "c450 only" thread and the "c450 is now c43" on the w205 board. There you will meet some former MBworld members and lots of speculation on what your c43 actually is. If you want to get in on the inside joke, search "Dime size rock chip!!!! What to do here suggestion??".
FYI, depending on the size of the chip, a dab of touch up usually looks good from a 5 footer. I ordered from Paintscratch.com for my diamond silver touch up, and it looks fine. I've got a little nagger right in the center under the hood ornament that I "fixed".
