C43 jacking points

So did a search and not a lot of info on how to jack up a W205.

I'm wanting to switch to my summer tires and do it myself. I see that some use a special adaptor on a floor jack to do this.

Anybody just use a normal scissor jack to change the wheels?

The independent shop that put my winters on didn't use any special adaptor but did use a floor jack.

Since I don't have a floor jack it's probably cheaper to have the shop do it but I'm a cheap Dutchman I'd rather do it myself.

Any ideas?

Look underneath in the usual spots and you'll see where the jack points are. There are little plastic covers that you need to remove. Just grab the inside with 2 fingers and pull down and towards you. Don't worry, you can't really break them as if you do it right, they'll pop off without much force.

Then go from there. You'll see how the "Special" MB adapter fits in there but you can use your common sense to put whatever jack you have in there without damaging anything.

Your manual gives gives detailed information about the jacking points, ft-lb of torque on the axle bolts (96), removing plastic side rocker panel piece (not necessary with most floor jacks), etc. You can buy a floor jack for under 40 bucks. You need a torque wrench, 17mm socket (ideally with a plastic sleeve to protect the rim from scratches and a floor jack. Re-tighten axle bolts after 25 miles to spec.

The manual is useless as it describes using a Merc jack which of course doesn't come with the car.

So is a floor jack supposed to contact what appears to be a plastic lifting point?

Yes, plus I use a hockey puck on the lift point of my floor jack. Works just fine!

Also if you lift at the rear point and take it high enough, both front and rear wheels clear the ground. This made swapping my snows in and out a piece of cake!

Yes, that shouldn't be any different than lifting any other vehicle with the rear diff. Just make sure you protect the casing with something soft like a piece of wood or something similar.

I simply bought a jack pad from Reverse Logic. Works like a charm and holds in place. So easy! While you are at it get a lug guide or 2 and don't be that guy that holds his tire with his foot while trying to align and tork your lug nut.

a couple of lug guides, that's a really good idea. I should put that on my list.

1 is usually enough just remove the top lug first then insert the lug guide then remove all the other lugs that way the wheel stays in place easily. Or get 2 and then Bob's your uncle...

So got me a nice floor jack and got the wheels switch out.

Wowza are the P-Zero's noisy! They are noisier than my snows.

Probably unrelated to the wheel switchover, but now I have a slight pulsing on the brake pedal under braking.......

Suggestion: find some clear roadway and try 2 or 3 back to back threshold braking cycles from ~120kms/hr -> ~40kms/hr.

If you still feeling the brake pedal pulsing take it to your dealer for a closer inspection.

Guys, I was just wondering if you jack the car up using the jack points in the car using a floor jack, where do I put a jack stand for safety while doing a brake job for example? Sorry for stupid questions. Just learning as I go.

On the subframe, cross-member, differential, or trans.

OP, if you already have a 17mm socket, just wrap electrical tape around it and that does just as good as long as clearance in the holes is not an issue. Some aftermarket wheels keep a slim circumference, but the tape will do until you get one with built in soft walls.

Rear diff is always a good jack point so you can use the factory lift points for jack stands. If I'm lifting the whole car and not working on suspension, I typically use the lower suspension arms (NOT control rods) each corner. You lose a little height, but it's stable.

Thanks man. So if I am working on brakes I should be able to use the suspension arms right? Just to be clear, can you show me in the picture below, around which point will you place the stand? I really do not damage anything being the noob that I am.

Tough thinking about it looking at the exploded view, but I'm pretty sure it's 11. It should be the thickest, lowest arm coming out of the cradle/body.
