Yeah, here's about the app:
- works only when Verizon signal is really strong
- every time you open the app you need to enter the stupid pin
- when you want to lock/unlock the car, there is no real feedback, there is only a message saying the signal has been sent, but that doesn't mean the car was actually locked/unlocked
- the app remains open and drains phone batter, unless forcefully stopped from app manager
Need I say more?! extremely bad software engineering with this one.

Over in the U.K. we don't have Verizon, I'm on giffgaff...
My MercedesMe keeps me logged in for 120 days. I got the option to stay logged in for that time when I logged on.
I refresh the app to give me that car's status when I need it. That tells me whether the car is open or not.
If you're on android and rooted, get the 'recently' app. This will shutdown apps running in the background after a certain time and clear them from the recently used list.

At least you guys get the option at all, even if it is clunky. In Canada we don't get squat, although I guess being able to bluetooth tether may be better than the spotty/slow forced 3g connection.

here's a good video explaining the pros and cons to the remote start and Mercedes Me app. This applies to the US.

Anyhow, the worst part of the Mercedes remote start is that's the only thing it does...remote starts the engine for 10 minutes (when the app works). Not much help if you live in cold climates where many other vehicles with remote start also activate the rear window defroster, the heated outside mirrors, and on some vehicles the heated drivers seat & heated steering wheel.
I miss my Jeep Grand Cherokee for that...

I think the only MB that gives you those options is the S-Class

I keep reading these remote start threads and while I agree that MB Me is spotty at best, it does start the car remotely. Regarding temp controls, also in agreement that the defrost, heated seat options etc, would be nice. With that said, it's been cool in the mornings (50s) and hot in the afternoons (mid 90s) over the past few weeks here in Nebraska. I've been cranking down the AC before I head in to the office in the morning and remote starting before I head out. Cool breeze flowing for me...about as much of an inconvenience as having to double blip up to S+ every time I get in the car!
