Trackday/ Hotlap @ Toronto Motorsports Park -1:19:3
Around a week ago, I decided to take the car for open car lapping at Toronto Motorsports Park at Cayuga. This car really is unbelievable and performed amazingly well. There were several high tiered performance cars I managed to walk away from. A Stingray, F type, S5, S4, G35 (new one), 370z, Genesis and ofcourse a GT86, so this car is absolutely no slouch. Finally I decided to go for hotlap, where I kind of eased of at a couple of places, so I can definitely do better. Here is a list of lap times around this circuit:
http://fastestlaps.com/tracks/toronto-motorsports-park
I have the Michelin PS4s on my car and they performed flawlessly once they were warmed up and there was grip almost everywhere. No understeer, just very very neutral handling. The car was taking everything I threw at it. My only complaint was, that the suspension was a bit bumpy and floaty at certain points. Just not stiff enough. I tried to kick the tail out at a couple of corners, but the PS4s were way too sticky for that to happen.
Also this is fair warning for all tuned cars, I have a stock car and it was 30.5 C at the track that day, and I managed to hit engine temps as high as 121C(250F) and transmission temp as high as 112C (233F) when I was really really pushing it at certain sections (Had a friend in the passengers seat). Once I lifted off, the temperature fell very quickly but it is still something to think about. If a stock car is reaching these temps, there is no way a tuned car with all that extra boost would be able to do what I did.. If you are tracking the car, this is something to think about. Atleast as stock I had that peace of mind.
About the end, don't even ask. I am still crying to this day.

Honestly, and I have always said this, people really really underestimate this car. In the straights, some of the more powerful cars were gaining on me, but I was gaining on them every single corner. It really just keeps on gripping and gripping and gripping. I think this car's handling characteristics are very similar to that of the Nissan GTR, just less power. Also the rear power bias really neutralizes any kind of understeer.

Haha, to be fair, that car was that guy's track only pocket rocket. He just had a seat, a steering wheel and a gear shifter in that car, nothing else.
About the helmet I dunno, I actually expected them to ask me wear a helmet, but apparently only the non street legal cars have to wear them.

I did 15 minutes in and 20 minutes rest sessions for a total for 5 sessions in. And, I should have mentioned this actually, haha. The brakes were completely shot and pulsating at high speeds after the session. I was still under 30k kilometres which is under the brake pads and rotors warranty period. So my dealership changed them free for me. Ofcourse they are under the impression that I am just a spirited driver hahaha.
Though I should mention that the brakes held amazingly well during the session though. Very little to no fade at all.

Track times boil down to the driver and their comfort with their car. Seen many a Z06 get passed by S2000's at the track.
Great wheeling OP. Nice to see the car out there getting some great times down.
Oil cooler may be in order to keep up throughout the season. Luckily temps are cooling down.

yep when i was on track i experienced no fade at all.
my brakes were pulsing after my track day as well. 2 weeks of my commute to work with some spirited stops off the highway smoothed them back out. Just FYI once you are out of warranty THe brakes on this car are amazing.

the track i was on had a top speed in my car of 105 MPH. so a faster track may yield different results.

Also I have 28k kilometers on the car and the brakes were still going very very strong given that I hammer my car every weekend quite a bit.

Absolutely. During the tracking, I was hitting speeds all the way up to 191 and slowing down to 80 in the straights (kmph). As you guys can see I was not going easy on the car at all. And I never felt any fade from the brakes. Like I said, the only problem was the brakes were pulsating on the highways after the session and both the pads and rotors were replaced by Mercedes as a result.
