Not sure if this will be of use to anyone else, but it was something I had to figure out myself as a new owner. Got in the car last night and the radio, navigation, COMAND controls in general were all off and "Radio Off" read on the console under the wheel. Tried pressing everything a few times, including the "mute" button located on the steering wheel's volume control. Finally addressed the volume control on the center console and realized I had depressed it as well, effectively setting everything to "MUTE" and in fact turning off the COMAND controls on the screen. I'm sure it's in the manual somewhere, but it's this kind of stuff that will send a new owner around the bend.
