Exclamation c43 euro spec vs US spec

I noticed that it seemed that euro spec rates the c43 engine 367 hp and 150 (250 kph) top speed. The US spec seems to be 362 hp and 130 computer limited speed. Anyone know the technical specs that would make a difference. I guess that the US offering has more emissions equipment to lower hp, and top speed is for US road compliance.

US spec is 362HP. The difference is due to the way in which HP is measured. In layman terms, euro horses are smaller and therefore you need more to do the same job. As for the top speed difference, you can probably blame your car regulations for that and the run-flats you insist on having.

Typo? The NA spec C43 has 362 HP, not 262.

The C43's 367 power rating is PS, not HP. The different ratings are different standards for measuring engine power. Mathematically, 1 PS = 0.986 HP.

Thus, 367 PS = 361.862 HP or, rounded up, 362 HP.

The even better news is that Mercedes (and AMG) typically seem to be quite conservative in their engine power ratings so most (if not all new, properly broken in) cars, if actually tested, will meet or exceed their power/torque ratings.

Personally, I find that the thing that makes Mercedes (and pretty much all German cars) more of a pleasure to drive is their wide and flat maximum torque band that typically comes on at 1800-2200 RPM and continues for at least 2000 RPM. By comparison, many manufaturers' engines have a maximum torque that's simply a short-lived peak.
