Cracking Sound when driving

hi,

Since buying our C43 AMG, a few weeks ago, whenever we drive out of the driveway and turn left or right, we hear pretty nasty clunking noise, maybe 7 or 8 until we straighten out. They are loud noises and makes us feel like there is a problem.

went to MB today and the tech said it’s totally normal especially in cold and wet weather (which we are having)

is anyone else having this issue?

thx in advance

I would ask to speak about to higher ups. I've never heard such a noise in my car. Not since I've had it since November

So, both your car _and_ your dealer are not "everything they're cracked up to be?" [sorry, couldn't resist]

"Normal" ... nonsense. I'd find another dealer, if you have choices. For sure, my C43 sedan has never made such a noise.

My car does the same, it's the tyres "scrubbing" or "skipping". Is your car RHD? It is most prevalent on those.

I think the phenomenon is called "crabbing" if you would like to research it more.

I regularly experience it too. Only at low speeds from the front end. Reminds me of a truck with the rear end locked...both tires are forced to turn at the same speed, so when you turn, outside tire is moving slower than the actual speed of the vehicle resulting in squeaking tire and hopping.

I don't think "crabbing" is the right term. I always thought that was when the axles weren't aligned on the body. This is super common on Ford work vans and trucks.

Lots of complaints in there, but I don't really see this as a critical issue, and certainly not nearly worthy of the shade that's being thrown in that post. Embarrassment is not cause for a fix of anything. It's a low speed shift in the rubber...something that is likely only experienced as a result of the more common use of low profile tires which require stiffer sidewalls. I'd be willing to bet people with 18" wheels don't have this non-issue. Just MHU.

Sounds like the run flats during cold weather. Was the first sound I heard that made me know I wanted these things off the car. I was backing out of my driveway on angle, and straightening back out to drive.

My mother (who notices nothing) even made a quip.

Soon after I removed them in favour of the Michelin PS4S. Never heard that crunching sound again.

Not RHD, I live in Canada.

We hear the pop, pop, pop like 7-10 times whether we drive out straight and turn either right or left. Same in reverse. Just doesn’t seem right for a $100K vehicle.

My R8 did the same and that was an almost $200K car. It's just a 'quirk' of some AWD systems.
