AMR is great!! I had the ship in ECU tune and you do have to pay up front before you ship them the ECU.. if your going to get dyno tuned they probably want to make sure you are scheduled and serious about getting your car tuned because they are very busy and they probably want everyone they schedule to not back out at the last minute..I recommend AMR 110%.. they have the rv3.1 tune that is a beast!! I love it!!

I had to do that with ship in ECU, but it makes sense if you are scheduling an appointment. They need to confirm your spot since I am sure plenty other people could take it. It is just like purchasing a service online if you think about it. If you bought the dyno upgrade off of the website, it would have been the same scenario, no?

On another note, good choice with the upgrade! I just got the RV3.1 and it is bananas lol.

If you’re shipping your ECU, this makes complete sense. If you’re going for an appointment, absolutely not. What mechanic/shop makes you prepay for appointments?

Yeah, I've never had to pay up front for anything that I had an appointment for. That seems odd to me. I get that shops are busy and want to weed out people who might flake but that's what deposits are for.

In this case you're paying for a service not a product- in my experience you always pay for the service after, this goes for a haircut, meals, car details, car repairs, appliance repair, lawn service and the list goes on and on.

The reason this is done is so you have time to make sure you are satisfied with the service you received, that's the way it goes and that's the way it has always been since the dawn of time.

Paying up front is a red flag and if something goes wrong you're not getting your money back. It puts the ball in the retailers court, so if you are not satisfied your out $$$$. Good luck getting the money back from any retailer when you pay up front and are dissatisfied with the result.

just my opinion and by no way reflects the opinion of anyone else on this board or the board itself for that matter.

Now I have been to business school at the university and this is not how business is done properly.

Sounds like they are using future profits to pay off past debts. You see this all the time in the automotive industry.

P.T. Barnum used to make people pay up front all the time to see a real life mermaid or Bearded Lady. If you didn't like the sideshow guess what, you didn't get a refund. Pay up front was a great deal for Mr. Barnum he got paid no matter the satisfaction of his customer

This. Agreed 100%.

Other tuners typically take you for a spin after you’re tuned to make sure you’re satisfied before you pay.

See this all the time in businesses with poor cash flow management.

Although I have my vehicle Tuned by AMR, I can't say I approve this method. The I did it is that I scheduled a week in advance and told them that I will be coming (7 hr drive one way) and they were very welcoming in fact and asked for nothing but to confirm two days before that I am still coming. Right or wrong I do not approve with this method of paying before service but depends on how bad you want their product lol.

I used to deal with a shop for my LS powered cars before and they changed their policy to no appointments made until at least 5% of the job quoted value is payed down which I am not a fan of but would still go to them if I still had LS cars because of the quality work they provide.

To be honest a lot of people these days just simply don't respect time or the word they give. Like this shop (The LS engines shop) I used to deal with, told me that in the past they would go through the trouble of looking up parts and purchasing them, scheduling a customer down for an appointment then they get the excuse of ("Oh I just decided to put this off till later, Sorry"). Now what about the shop time? what about the trouble they went through to get you that quote? what if they already ordered the part? What if another customer was actually going to take your spot but then when they found out that the wait time of 2+ weeks to get an appointment was too far and then they decided to go with another shop? simply because you took a spot that you weren't sure about?
Obviously all this comes into play when running a shop which I am not qualified to speak about because I don't own a business of that sort but it does make since a little bit, still not a fan of but makes since.
