2019 C43 AMG order - status, options, pics etc
#301
Well, my preconfigured 2019 C43 cabrio that was “coming in from another dealer” is now “at the port waiting for release”. My SA had me ready for delivery this week, now I’m in the same boat as everyone it seems. Waiting with no eta. Is this delay unusual? Trying to buy a car that’s not available is a new experience for me!

Your SA may not have been technically wrong. I suspect that your dealer swapped allocations with another dealer to get this car for you. The problem is that the car wasn't physically there yet.
So typically, a car that is ordered from the factory is produced and the sent to a vehicle processing center (VPC) for final assembly, inspection, window sticker, option installation, and in some cases repair. VPC's are generally located convenient to ports. If it is domestically built it travels there by train or carrier. If made overseas, it arrives by ship. So in a normal scenario, the car arrives, is processed, and then is released after a few days to be transported to the dealership. However with new models, there is sometimes a wait. New models need to be tested and approved by the government. Curb weight, gas mileage ratings, safety standards, etc. have to all be signed-off on and documented. This is what is happening now with the C43. According to my SA, the process for all models, has taken much longer since the VW gas mileage scandal. I'm not sure how accurate that is, but it is taking longer these days.
So now...we wait.

Lol lucky! We dont really get much in Canada like that sadly...
And I spoke to a SA in Vancouver yday ( I am visiting Vancouver). He said they got an email Nov 10th that says "the 43s will be released first part of Dec" IF there are no additional delays...
Yet another delay from last update.

Now Nov has passed and this latest update has said beginning of Dec. Seems like USA and Canada are likely on the same timeline.

I wouldn't assume that the US and Canada are on the same timeframe. The vehicles have to go through different processes and certifications for different countries.

What recommendations for season tires and aftermarket rims. I am storing my 19' Multispoke whenever the car gets here since its already snowing in new york and we have a few storms heading our way. I tried to price out the OEM 18' AMG wheels, they wanted $1100 a pop with winter thread. So looking on tirerack, do these wheels fit the break dimensions? and i assumed 18's would drive better with good winter thread right?
please let me know any comments before i purchase. thank you

So that's the big question. But unfortunately I think there is a very simple explanation. A 119 car recall is really nothing. It's a drop in the bucket. However, there are a lot of models listed. Now I highly doubt that they were able to identify a handful of cars from each model that would be covered by the recall. More than likely, the 119 cars refers to vehicles that have been sold and delivered. Cars that are still waiting at the VPC and not even in the hands of dealers would not be included in the recall. They would still have to be repaired however - assuming that the issue is pervasive. And if it is pervasive, with that many models affected, things could back up.
This is all speculation of course, and is a doomsday scenario. But I'm naturally pessimistic when it comes to car delivery time.

Your vehicle is not currently affected by a safety recall.

2019 C43 Coupe
Regarding where the C43's are built, as far as I know my coupe will be built in Germany. The C300 coupes that are on the dealers lot all have the Germany country code in the VIN and were shipped through Bremen. I'm assuming the same for the C43 coupe.

Agreed. My vehicle is still sitting at the VPC, but I checked the VIN against the official MB recall database and it's not affected as of yet. Will definitely bring it up to the dealer before taking delivery however.

Thanks for the info. Do you have a link to the website for the VIN check for recall?
Thanks in advance.

All,
I ordered mine on 8/23. I just got an update from my SA (San Diego, CA). According to him, my C43 (sedan) was built in Alabama. It's currently at the VPC in Alabama. He says it will likely move into "inventory" status within five days. After that, he estimates that it will be 14-21 days until delivery.

In the midst of all this news, my car finally showed up with an image on the Mercedes me app.
Before, the vehicle info was there - VIN, C43 coupe etc but not vehicle image.
Likely doesn’t mean much but just thought I’d update you guys.

multimedia is a must! Leather always gives it a nice touch. I usually upgrade or don't skimp on things that i'll use/touch constantly such as seat materials.

Why do you say multimedia is a must? I debated about this one (and still have time to change), but decided against. Mainly because I use navigation a lot and would rather be able to connect to my phone for nav. Never had really good results with factory installed navigation.

I skipped the multimedia package. With Apple car play now supporting Waze, to me there was no reason to spend $2,300 on a GPS that will likely be out of date in two months. If you like Waze on your phone, you’ll like it even more on the bigger screen.

Plus, I prefer the simplified controls and just having the jog dial regardless.
