Bigger Turbos in facelift?
#51
So I wrote to AMG asking what the differences were on the engine side...
"I write further to your recent email communication received at our office on the 16th October 2018. I was delighted to hear of your interest in the current production model of our Mercedes C 43 AMG and I understand you would like to know if there has been any modifications to the model in comparison to your current C 43 AMG. I can confirm in our current production of our Mercedes C 43 AMG models the turbos have been enlarged which results in an enhancement of the horse power. Your current Mercedes C 43 AMG's horse power is 367 and our current production models have horse power of 390. In addition to this modification this model now comes with a petrol particulate filter."

Fair enough. It just didn't come across as a joke when you posted it. I apologize for being a little harsh in my response.

I find it highly amusing that AMR made a public claim that they have had hands on experience with a 2019 C43 and verified that the turbos are not larger. When pressed about how this was possible given that no 2019s are even out yet in the U.S., they are now using this exact screen grab as their "proof" and never actually did have hands on. What a credible, reputable company.....

Hate to necro an old thread, but this may be of interest for some. I said I wanted to wait until someone actually had hands on with the turbos to confirm, and here is the answer, I'll just leave this here:

I have a Eurocharged Tune, tried 3 files, still only gained peak WHP of 26 at the top and Torque gain of 102 lb ft.
There is a 50whp below the curve, but that's how it feels.
Gained massive low - mid range torque which Is great, but can feel that top end is abit stronger but not loads.
Surely with a bigger turbo / turbine it should be easier to improve peak power.
Anyone else have thoughts on this ?

Re power delivery, you mean worse for the 19 +facelift with a tune?

i don't understand turbo technology well enough to answer that. A larger compressor wheel should be able to produce more power at the same or even less psi but there may be issues with overcoming surge that are stopping that from happening.
i simply don't know though..

wouldn't say worse - just different. the pre facelift car had gobs of power in the mid range whereas the facelift feels much more linear. The gradual change in power can be perceived as less exciting though.
