Would 235/40/18 tires installed on 18x8J ET35 wheels fit on a 2017 C43 sedan? I found a local guy selling this lightly used winter setup that was used on a W204 C63.

They may or may not ... it largely depends upon the wheel design. The usual challenges are clearing the brake-caliper housing and clearing the front suspension vertical arm which, to some extent, is dependent upon the wheel's offset (and width, of course). My winters are 225/45's on 18x8 rims that have an offset of 32, so the one's you're considering may work. The only way to be sure is to try them or find some reputable supplier that says they've verified they'll fit.
