New C43 anomolies

Hi, everyone. New member. Just put a deposit down on a 2108 c43. Went for a test-drive yesterday and two things happened. Everything was brilliant apart from two things which I'd like to run by you guys (and girls?).

1. The suspension at the back seemed particularly harsh over small bumps - even in comfort mode. It was fine over speed humps though, so...assuming just sports suspension?
2. Went round a couple of tight corners at really low speeds and the power steering felt weird, like it suddenly turned off and on again - got really heavy then went light. That one worried me, but it was very brief.

Would love to know if anyone has experienced these things. Don't want to get myself a lemon.

Cheers,

Rich

Nope. 18. Although I’ve since learned they may be run-flats.

Ah ok. The 18in are a little better but yes run flats will still be a stiffer ride.

Cool As long as you think it’s normal. Any thoughts about the power steering problem?

Haven't experienced that in mine but I'm still in break in period so haven't really pushed it. Hopefully some other can give some input on that aspect.

2019 C43 Coupe
1. I don't think the ride is hard or rough at all. I saw many reviews that said the C43 was a stiff ride even in comfort mode. I guess they were comparing it to a Buick??? The run flats suck and will be replaced.
2. I haven't experienced that at all. I wished it was a bit heavier than it is.

Ha. Well, I think I’ve got older and my back prefers a more ‘Buick’ ride, now.

Sounds like I best go for another test drive before paying the remainder. Car has only done 100 miles. Hopefully it’s just some character of the 4WD or something.

Cheers

2018 C43 Cabriolet
I have a 2018 c43 with 18inch run-flats and find the suspension perfect . I read before purchasing that it was too stiff and it almost put me off the car .( I'm 74 ) . I love the sporty ride in Comfort and quite often drive in Sport+ ! I've had no issues with the steering .

As to the steering: go to another dealer and test drive a new 2019. See if it's the same.

The steering feedback has been mentioned once or twice in a few threads here and there. I notice it most on long sweeping on-ramps. It's a feeling akin to the power steering holding the angle of the wheel and almost feeling loose, then when you really intentionally move to straighten out/angle further in, the resistance reengages. Normal.

The 2108s won't be out for another 89 years ... Sorry couldn't help it. This is more of a general comment. I can't specifically comment on the C43 as I've never driven one, but tire pressure is something that you should keep an eye on. Chances are the tires are not correctly inflated. Probably overinflated. These cars typically have several different recommended tire pressures depending on number of passenger, amount of cargo and planned top speed. For most of your driving, you should lower the tire pressure to the recommended pressure for normal load. There's a sticker inside the fuel cap I believe that lists all the different tire pressures. Another one that's already been mentioned is that you might wanna ditch the runflat tires. They add to the harshness.

I have often wondered what the frame of reference is when I see this. I remember looking at reviews and seeing the comments here and in those reviews about the harsh ride. I wasn't sure what to expect. I've had a wide range of makes over the years, and thinking back, my 04 STi was probably the stiffest I've owned, but back then I really didn't care, as the handling prowess was the trade-off. I had the 2010 IS-F, that also had numerous complaints about it's suspension stiffness and ride harshness. That was a stiff riding car. It basically bounced on every tiny little ripple in the pavement. I grew to hate it. (along with the fact that it just felt so uninvolving to drive...it just wasn't that fun). Went to BMW and that was better, but still was harsher than the C43 has been. Better than the 1M and the F10 M5. Even the M5 on it's softest setting felt stiffer than my C43. I have never thought of it as rough or harsh. I guess it's different for different people.

I had the same issue with the ride comfort and tried a few lowering springs now I have a solution that works well in all the models I would say try a set of lowering springs that would sort out the ride and low and high speed.

2019 C43 Wagon
The manual does suggest that the trunk equipment (jack/repair kit) differs between countries.

Maybe they decided that Australia gets conventional tires and a fix kit?

As much as a spare tire would be nice, the conventional tires and repair equipment is better than the Runflat "solution"

my 2019 C43 Wagon is arriving in Canada in a 3-4 weeks, task #2 on the list is to replace the runflats with Pilot AS3+'s before the spring tire rebates conclude. (#1 is to put on a ceramic paint coating)

For whats its worth, my '19 came with Run-flats, but the trunk did not have the Towing Eye, Tireflation Kit, Jack, Lug Wrench, and Folding Tire Chalk.
I made the dealership check the other six C43 sedans in the lot and each did not come with the above items.

So, while unlikely, it's possible that all seven were incorrectly delivered missing equipment, it seems that the US spec sedans don't come with that from the factory.

Trunk did include the first aid kit, cargo net and folding box.

I'm in the UK and my 17 came with the towing eye and tireflation kit. No jack, lug wrench or folding tire chalk.
I don't have run-flats. Run flats in the UK don't come with tireflation kit. I do believe they come with the towing
eye. I did get the first aid kit, cargo net and folding box.
