c450 knocking noise upon start up please help

just got off the phone with the shop foreman. car is on the lift he said engine is completely disassembled he said we sent pictures to mercedes of all the internals and everything they needed. he’s now waiting on a okay to order a new engine for the car. makes me relieved to know my problem is gone. when i get my car back.

no foreman stated they’re going to throw a new engine. he’s just waiting for approval from mercedes corporate then he’s gonna order one. wondering what the price tag is on that lol

Probably $10k wholesale if it's coming from local like Alabama. Few $k more if the turbos are included.

I think this is a first I've heard of this issue and I'm glad you're still under warranty! A whole new motor is nice but I always feel the car is defected even after all that. That's a major overhaul imo. How many miles on the original motor?

so here i am now guys 8 weeks later. car is said to be ready for pick up this afternoon. had terrible dealership service these long 8 weeks can’t wait to be back in the drivers seat of that thing. mercedes claims they installed a brand new motor and brand new turbos. we shall have to see

I had to bring it in twice to solve the problem. The first time, they replaced both left & right upper time tensioners. The noise was gone for a few days but then came back after about a week. Brought it back & they replaced the right intake camshaft adjuster. Noise has been gone ever since..

It was a loud engine knocking noise that lasts just a few seconds at start-up - the video in Post #19 is the noise my engine WAS making before they fixed it

Wow now just pissed I can't believe after they changed the camshaft adjusters the noise is still there what kind of bull**** is it?
Mercedes said they don't know what it is they need to start with 15 hour of labour and they still might not _ know" what's it is. I only had this car for 6 months as welll

no bs I have the same issue now in a tech myself and the issue sounds like a bent valve the engine should hold oil at top and its sinking ti the block cause there a air leak in there some where when engine off the oil pressure should stay the same the oil should hold in the head they just need to. replace the bent vale or the timing can also be off. will also cause a vale to be off timing.

Your knocking noise.
I know how terrible that knocking is mine is way worse that’s due to a bent valve it’s oil starvation if the engine isn’t completely sealed when shut off then the oil will all drop to the pan causing a hard start up. I’m having the same problem the dealer denied my issue because of the exhaust and DP which is exhaust doesn’t affect or cause oil starvation. But if you don’t mind it’ll be a great help to me if you can send me the parts that were all changed the first few visits before the engine swap. If you still have them around. Thank you. I’m submitting mine to my insurance company. Thanks again if you can if not then it’s ok.
