Just finished my free AMG driving academy program C43 is legible!

Hi guys!

I got my 2019 C43 at the start of the year and learned on the AMG private lounge that you can book a free 1 hour one on one training session on the track with a qualified AMG driving instructor for free.

I've just finished my day and wanted to post and tell you guys about it and how the c43 performed.

The hour was split into lots of parts.

It was designed as a good hour to show what the c43 is capable of and how to push it to its limits.

First we did a warm up lap around a basic track

Then we did some high speed heavy braking to show off the ABS. We even tried breaking hard without holding the steering wheel and the car stopped perfectly in a straight line.

They had a simulated long strip treated surface to mimic ice and we did the same exercise with the heavy breaking. The car held up brilliantly. It was very impressive.

Then we did a small handling test driving around some cones. It was great to test the difference with the comfort and sport+ damper settings. Sport+ was much more direct on the quick turns.

Then we went on a full treated wet skid circle and practiced some over and understeer and some drifting. The C43 was surprisingly very back tail happy when we turned the traction control off with its 70% rear wheel bias. It was really good fun!

Then we finished up with some awesome laps around the full track. The track was great. There was lots of tight bends and a good long straight. The c43 handling was really impressive and so much fun going around the bendy corners.

I run a vlog on youtube with my C43 so I have uploaded a full video of the day so if you'd like to see you can check it out below.

This was in the UK but its also available in the US I hear.

Nice! I haven't heard of this specifically being available in the USA, but somebody please correct me if I missed something. Here in the USA we get an entire free track day with the AMG Driving Academy. It's made up of some class room sessions in the morning to learn about the theory and then several track sessions in various AMG models from the C43 all the way to the GT-R. I have mine scheduled for 9/29 at Laguna Seca. It's on the same weekend as the Monterey Jazz Festival. I'm trying to combine it so the wife has something to enjoy while I'm tearing up the tarmac

Unfortunately if you took delivery of a c43 after April 1st 2019 you now are only entitled to $895 towards the cost of the AMG day (I would have to pay $1000). I was hoping since I ordered my c43 on March 20th I would get the full free track day, but no dice per the AMG academy.

Enjoy your day sounds awesome!

I scheduled for the day-long 9/30 session, saw that there was already a waitlist for the 9/29 session given it's on the weekend.

It looks like C43 (and other 35, 43 or 53) models purchased prior to April 1, 2019 are eligible for the free AMG Academy Day (aka PERFORMANCE training). 35/43/53 Cars purchased after that date are eligible for a $895 credit towards the same, basically you will need to pay $1,000 to attend the session.

Ah, that's what this $895 credit is about. I saw language about this in the cancellation policy and was wondering what the heck it is talking about. I have a C63S, so my day is still complimentary anyway.

Nice, I was at Brooklands too just last Friday, for my own C43 driving experience.
It's great fun, especially as its complimentary with ownership.
I wish the full track was a bit longer though.
Some things I noticed on the track, the standard AMG non bucket seats are not supportive enough on high speed cornering. Also the 43 is a lot harder to drift than than the 63 because of the 31% front torque, it goes into four wheel drifts nicely though. Somehow the A45 Is easier despite having a haldex type AWD system.
It was a great experience, and also enjoyed the Museum/ dealership as well.
RBR on YouTube has just uploaded his new GT63 4 door unveiling , collection & track session too, at Brooklands, looking forward to watch that.

Hey,
Another owner of 2019 C43 AMG here! Congrats on the new experience! I did AMG Driving School performance course last month, and it was really good. C43 drives amazingly well indeed.

We also had a wet skid circle doing drifting for more than an hour, but it was with C63S. The funny thing that I was never able to make my own C43 over-steer like that. Like really, different conditions, wet tires + wet surface + esp off and it still grips!! Maybe some small drift for less than a second and that's what you got. That's crazy on the track but not really fun is you want to go "sideways".
What was your experience? I the video you showed, the over-steer on C43 is barely noticeable apart from one 90 degrees you had. I am thinking that maybe the tire pressure is the reason? Do you know what was yours? Mine is around 36-38 PSI on the front and around 33 PSI on the back.

Anyway, still a cool video man!

What a shame that C43 buyers no longer get the full day US experience for free. I did mine about a year ago at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut, and it was a blast! May well have been the most fun day I have ever had without my family with me. We did all of those skill kind of things - slalom course, skid pad, hard braking at speed, and of course, track time with several models including GT-R. I would encourage anyone that can to do it.

Hi anb. I ordered a 2020 C43 back in June. I've enjoyed watching your videos while I await delivery. Thanks for making them.

I went on the same skid pad, its very easy to get the C43 rear end out and into a drift, with ESP off. It has 69% rear bias after all. The hard thing is to carry the drift on, with the front traction it pulls itself out more easily.
He was just being too cautious in the throttle and steering angle.

yeah, I was really bummed that I was not eligible for the full $1895 especially after ordering the car on 3/20. (You must have taken delivery on the car prior to 4/1/19.) It is still a nice discount of $895, but because of where I live I would have to spend a fair amount on air fare, hotel etc and the free day experience would have offset those costs. I still may do it, but we shall see...I still have a year after purchase to take advantage.
