Catless downpipes worth it?

Hey all,

I am contemplating installing the catless weistec downpipes on my c450 with a eurocharged stage 1 tune. If I understand correctly, this would make it a stage 2. Are the power gains noticable at all in the real world? Can someone that has gone from a stage 1 to a stage 2 chime in?

Thanks!

Not quite. For stage 2, you will need the new downpipes and a stage 2 tune to take advantage of the reduced back pressure. Gains are nominal when going catless DPs without a stage 2 tune (plus you will have a CEL without the stage 2 tune).

So eurocharged already put in the file for the cel in case I wanted to get downpipes in the future. Do you know if the stage 2 is a completely different tune you have to ask for? I have sent them an email this morning as well. Let's see what they say.

I am not sure about EC, but I am not aware of a flash tuning company that provides both Stage 1 and Stage 2 when you buy Stage 1.

Not sure I'll see what they say and post an update but they for sure included the file for the check engine light in case I decided for downpipes in the future to avoid a reflash which they said would cost $100.

Not sure about power gains but some other users on this forum have documented quality issues with the weistech catless DPs. Some users are seeing cracks near the mounting brackets if my memory serves correctly, I'd run a search of this forum if I were you.

I'm running armytrix catless downpipes with DME Stage 2. There is a difference in power between Stage 1 and Stage 2, just depends on what you want for your car. I would research around for a downpipe, weistec catless downpipes have a history for cracking but surprisingly, my armytrix downpipes had a crack but wasn't major, had it welded for $25. I would be careful of buying used or buying catless downpipes from an unreliable shop, just because it would most likely crack in the future due to wear, weak weld, or bad design.

Yes, very noticeable power difference. People often highlight “only 10-15hp” or whatever but that increase tends to be through the entire rpm range. Real world my 0-60 deceased by 0.2-0.3, which is a lot.

Weistec has apparently fixed their cat design.. I have the old design and indeed mine cracked and I had to put stock back on

The sound is raspy and the smell can be rough too. If you live in a city where there’s a lot of stop and go, don’t expect to have the windows down

Thanks man, I have seen a couple of threads complaining about the cracks. Good to know that they make a difference.

Appreciate the feedback man. Good to know that weistec has worked on their design flaws. Is the sound and smell very noticable? I listened to some videos on youtube, and while I dislike the change in tone, I am still considering them due to the gains. My best 0-60 so far is 4.1 with an ec stage 1 and getting to the 3.8-3.9 range would be nice.

Really, I thought the ec tune was on the conservative end. Anyone here having issues? Let us know how it goes for you with new tune + downpipes.

Hey man, how bad is the smell? Wondering if it would bother my family. Can you smell the fuel with your windows up?

Stop lying, AMR is the one that’s doing that. All the staff and even the owner delete any negative comment. I will apologize if you can show any proof which I’m sure you won’t be able to. EC is proven to be the best and safest. You can see times on dragy leaderboard and Many positive things just google them.

Dude I have a eurocharged tune stage 1 rn and I don’t like how the car cold starts the fact that you have to pay every time to get the tune removed and reinstalled that’s just ridiculous I’d rather get a custom tune w a tuner that’s passionate about my car and can take it to next heights compared to some rs3 **** sucking fanatics just my 2 cents ....... honestly go get ec or whoever else you wanna get it tuned from but youll understand what I mean when you’ve had a c43 as long as I have lmfao (since 2017 pfl and now fl)
