Dealership costs for Transmission issues

Hello guys,

it s going to be a long post, so patience is needed onward. I really need advice and exact info.

Hopefully there are among you some guys who work at Mercedes dealerships and could give me an inside tip on my problem.

In a nutshell, i have been having tranny issues since august this year on my late 2016 c43.
Firstly they changed my oil since the term was within 2k km, then the issue persissted.
The dealership raised a case to Merc Romania and they got the resolution to change the block of valves( presumably the brain of the tranny). Of course that did not fix my problem.
At this point i hoped for a brand new transmission unit, but after some further logs and another month and a half they had my car in, and said they needed ti take all of the mechanical parts of tcu apart and see if there is any of the clutches broken. They did that and found some orings busted and the meant to replace those plus the clutch unit one of the 4 or 5.
Meantime i approached Junge Sterne in order to check the status of this and see if the dealer’s story matched and also i hoped to find alternative solution to my now long term problem.
The dealer always told me it is more convenient for them to change the whole thing, however they could not do that due to Mercedes Ro/Daimler DE(not sure) resolution stating a repair was preffered rather than changing the whole TCU. They said they are being paid less and there is more work to do in taking the TCU apart piece by piece (which they have done up to date) and put it all together than just getting me a new TCU, which was “preffered solution” by them since they are bonused more.
BUT: junge sterne opened an investigation and ceased all the payments towards the dealership based on my call, and the dealership guy got frustrated since he thinks i did that on purpose, which i did not. It was just a phonecall from me to gather more details and that s all.
Now that got me thinking: why are they so scared by the investigation?! Right? The answer from a manager was “the reply got verbally to them not in written and they are struggling these days to fix that and get in touch with Merc Ro guy to provide them the written proof so they can claim the money from Junge sterne”.
And I dont know what to believe now: is it true that as a dealership you get paid less (work hours and parts less expensive) overall, than if you were to change the whole TCU (part i guess really costs more but there are less working hours since all you to do is take the tranny off the car, put the new one in and that s it)?

I dont know if i am being scammed of a new TCU and they just want to profit by making a lesser quality job by repairing an old tranny, and they keep telling me lies in order for me to feel safe? I suspect this since the whole story sounds really shady and i think the dealership guys get along well woth Mercedes Ro tech guy.

Any verified information is good for me.
thanks in advance, sorry for the long story and hope you got my point.

Warranty labor rate is lower than the standard rate, so the more hours they have to spend on a given problem, the less money they make in comparison to just a quick swap. They could have spent the extra time working on a non warranty car and making full hourly rate.

Thanks for the reply, mate! Seems their story is legit.
My other concern with this Daimler’s approach is...a rebuilt gear box by human mechanic would not be the same as a brand new, out of factory doors, robot assembled one. Especially if you live in a ****ty eastern european country like mine. I tend to question the quality of work generally speaking, since it s not german hands that are working on it, it is only germand “standard”. And that could go really fast to dumpster imho
