Another thing is, might not be my device that can record better. There is a chance that your car is better insulated sound wise being fl. For example, wind noise from driver side was less apparent on the fl I test drove compared to mine. I am sure your car rattles and squeaks less.
This car is definitely more insulated from noise in comparison to my PFL, especially with the addition of the pano roof (which my particular PFL did not have).

Given how observant you are, I doubt the following is likely, but I’ll ask anyway: Do you think this noise was always present, but that you may have just noticed it after actively listening for it?

I figure it’s unlikely, but also what are the chances that we both notice the same noise on different model years within a span of weeks? Pretty incredible.

Hmmm guess it wasn't just me noticing the pfl and fl have different sound insulation. It might be one of the 6500 new parts on the fl compared to pfl they talked about.

To be honest I am not sure, perhaps the sound happens time to time but after my ears are trained to actually listen to it instead of it possibly ignoring it prior to your videos, I started to notice it.

I have a feeling the sound was there for a while, I wonder if it has to do with any software updates within the past year. Rather poor analogy but since we are in the middle of the pandemic, here goes: Like how vaccines trains our immune system to recognize a threat and when it does come it knows to identify and fight it.

Interesting thoughts you shared for sure.

It didn't happen today though.

Glad you didn’t hear it today!

We’ll see if this is true for your case as well, but I don’t hear it in the following conditions:

- After driving the car consecutive days (2 or more days in a row)

- In warm, humid weather (irrespective of how long the car sat)

- On days that it does occur, after the oil and transmission temperatures both hit ideal operating window

That information certainly helps! I will see if I can hear it again, will keep you posted. It happened last time just after leaving the car in the garage overnight and driving the next morning, it is rather random for me. I am also confuse why mine lasted so much shorter every occurrence.

That is something to watch re: duration. How long mine lasts depends on the speed I’m traveling. If I go on a route that I’m up to 40-50 mph, I won’t here it at all after I’ve moved past the 30-35 mph range, which is the only speed range I hear it when it does happen.

Hmmm, ya I don't hear it this morning. I guess when it happens, it is because the car has mood swings. Currently it is 66 degrees (converted) sunny 64% as far as humidity goes. Engine and tranny cold start are around the same temperature as the surrounding environment. Driving it at low RPM and around 31 mph (converted) don't hear anything. Went up to 35 (converted) still nothing (well, except for the exhaust note and road noise and rattles and creaks : P )
Sound is also not present when engine and tranny are at operating temperature.

This injector/wastegate noise is a fickle mistress! But that’s a good thing on days like today where she’d doesn’t show up lol

I forgot you guys used the incorrect measurement units up there (Celsius and km/h). Probably made some of my speed and temperature references a bit harder to follow initially. You nailed the conversions it looks like though.

AhahahahaI think I cheated a bit though. I have miles enabled on the car as an alternative unit. I used it for occasional travel to the States prior to the pandemic.
Edit: Oh it shows it on the image I uploaded earlier, here is what I was talking about : P I have it enabled all the time despite not needing it, I guess practice makes perfect as I can quickly glance and see the usual numbers in miles.

lol well done.

On a side note - when did you get that tire pressure message? And why did it pop up?

That’s the same thing that happened to me a few weeks ago when that update happened.

My bad man, I should had mentioned it. My winters were on, this image was taken a while ago and it didn't have TPMS sensors, the following winter I had them installed. The image was an attempt to help illustrate my point regarding about a topic related to TPMS.

No worries! That makes sense. For a second, I was like: “Whoa, now this same thing is happening to his car too?!”

lol!

Sorry again for the confusion, On a second note, I don't think my car installs updates on its own as Canada didn't have MBrace or Mercedes Me back in 2017.

A small update:
Looks like I don't hear it lately, so the mystery remains.

Neither have I, even on a day where I drove in cool weather after having not driven for a few days. Usually those are external factors that influence it.
