Rear tires inner edge wear? Is this normal?

Yesterday after I was done my car’s brake service, the technician just told me both rear tires’ inner edges were worn. Tires are OEM sized 255/35/R19 Continental Contisportcontact 5 Run-flat. The car has 31,000 km now, and I want to know if this is normal. I’ve been riding on aftermarket Vossen wheels since last June. The rim is a little bit wider than OEM one. I don’t know if it's the rims to be blamed. What do your tires look like? And for my case, is camber adjustment needed?

It's your rear toe settings. Needs to be adjusted to as close to 0 as possible.

So this has nothing to do with aftermarket wheels?

Sure, the added width could be exaggerating the issue, but your toe setting is the cause.

Ok, maybe it's time to find a shop to perform some wheel alignment.

Usually because of aggressive toe in from factory, the front tires are first to go. How does the front look like? Or has the aftermarket rims fixed the fronts but is destroying the rears?

Reality is there is no Camber or Caster OEM facility to adjust tire contact angles / wheel squat.

Allowing to spread load more evenly to compensate for costly, premature edge tire wear.

Essential to cater for other then showroom height conditions. Encountered in day to day commuting – high cambered roads, altered height through load carrying, lowering, fitting wide profile tires, curb knock damage.

The often quoted re assuring “Full Front & Rear 4 Wheel Alignment” is in fact only “TOE” - directional adjustment (new car industry’s best kept secret).

TOE only adjustment has come about through cost savings and the ever increasing speed of Auto assembly lines !

We saw the need therefore to re-instate from the early 90's once again full, precise, front and rear adjustment capability.

The KMAC rear kit provides Camber (and also “EXTRA” TOE to compensate for the new Camber facility).

W205 C63 'S'
FRONT CAMBER & CASTER KIT #503316K $480 (Both Sides)
REAR CAMBER (&Extra Toe) #502326-1K $480 (Both Sides)

All kits come with bush extraction tools, instructions. Are precise, single wrench adjustable. Accurately (under load direct on alignment rack).

NOTE: Also all above “Front” kits supplied as “Camber” only (Quote – 1 after P/N) Price $295 (less then cost of one hi performance tire) !

See Website / Mercedes Catalog re full range of kits available.

Delivery $40 one kit, $60 Front & Rear. Sales, enquires 24/7 1888 847 9099
