C43 Traction Control Button

I have just read an article on the C43 which appears to suggest that by holding down the Traction Stability Control Button for 5 seconds this fully turns off the traction control, which apparently does not happen when the button is just pressed, this then in turn somehow increases the performance of the car! Has anyone one else come across this or tried it? I came across this info on a website 'www.cars.com'.

Yes, fairly common knowledge (at least on this board). Performance is “increased” because you do not have traction control braking when the car perceives a loss of traction.

Yes, that's pretty common knowledge. AMGs have a 3-stage ESP. On, Sport and Off. I'm guessing you haven't really read the owners manual, specifically the AMG supplement on page 18 where it's all described. A quick press engages ESP Sport, which increases the thresholds and allows some wheel spin and drift angles, and pressing and holding it completely turns it off. ESP is not just traction control, though. You also won't get any help from the system if you spin out. ESP is mainly two things. Yaw control and traction control. The former aides with keeping the car pointing where you steer it, and the latter manages wheel spin. If you turn off ESP make sure you know how to control the car if you start to spin out. Thankfully in AMGs ESP will temporarily reactivate when you step on the brakes, helping you safe the car.

Thanks for the responses, all make sense now. I did have a look in owners manual, UK version, but only found reference to clicking it once. I assumed that this turned the ESP off. I didn't realise that this was not completely off, however holding it down does turn it completely off. Have now tried this and it does make the car very lively and quite a lot more fun to drive. Given the correct circumstances of course!

Depending on your model year, there's a second smaller booklet specifically for the AMG differences. Regular MBs only have ESP Sport.
