2016 c450 amg fuel gauge issue

Hey guys,

Haven’t gotten a straight answer , apologies if this is available via search. I’ve been searching and only come up with a fuel sending unit being the possible culprit.

issue - fuel gauge shows full, empty and anything but the correct reading. I filled up today , the gauge still shows as fully empty.

any suggestions ? Possibly the fuel sending unit?

thanks kindly

Sorry if I am being dense, but more information is needed. How do you mean, and why do you believe, that your gas gauge is not accurate?

Hi,

Don’t apologize, I appreciate the help.

The fuel gauge is inaccurate when filling up, and shows random readings.

Today I filled up, the fuel gauge shows as empty. It’s been acting up for a while.

it’s not reading the correct amount of fuel, so I’m going based on mileage driven

There are two level sensors in-tank that the ECU uses to determine fuel level. One or both of these sounds defective in your case.
I do believe both sensors show their reading if you go into the maintenance menu (like for oil change reset). Should show fuel sens 1 at say 24.6% and sens 2 at 26.8% because the car maybe not level, but they should be close when on flat ground.
My guess is yours will show 96% on one and 0% on the other (or maybe negative)and the ECU doesnt know what to do with that info.

Thank you very much for your reply. I did find out there are two, but did not know the rest of that information.

Thank you !
