Front Right Tire Cracked. Can I just replace it?
I have a crack on my front right tire. 225 fronts with 19inch wheels. They are Continental SSR Run flats. The car is previously owned so I don't know when or if the originals were replaced but the tread looks pretty good on the tires. Can I just replace one tire? If I have to replace both fronts, can I go with a different brand than the rears?

I decided to go to Discount Tire and got my answer. They were able to look up when the tires were last replaced. This was in 2022 so they are practically brand new. Possible causes are going over a speed bump too fast, hitting a curb, going over a pothole...which I unfortunately did about a week ago. I can replace just the one right tire since my other front tire wear is within the range Mercedes says is acceptable. Boy these suckers are expensive...about $400. I would like to get rid of the run flats but it doesn't make sense since they are fairly new.

Sounds like in your scenario the tread depth of your existing tires was still good enough to not have much variation from the new tire. Too much variation can cause some extra stress on other components trying to compensate. Especially with AWD vehicles the industry standard is to always replace all 4 and not just two at a time.
As for the run-flats, you can certainly swap those out for standard tires when the time comes, but again just replace all 4 as you won’t want to mix and match run-flats with standards.
