Time to start saving guys.
Mercedes is plotting an even mightier version of the C-Class 55 AMG, if reports are to be believed. A prototype packing AMG's new 6.3-litre V8 with 510bhp and 465lb-ft of torque -- compared to the standard car's 367bhp and 376lb-ft -- has been reported in Autocar.
Aimed straight at the upcoming BMW M3 and Audi RS4, the car won't produced in volume, says the report. Instead, it'll be made in a limited run for 'a preferred set of customers'. Compared to the standard car, pictured above, it'll gain width at the rear with a widened track by using the rear axle from the DTM (German touring car), plus additional cooling vents at the front for that monster motor.
The standard C-Class 55 AMG costs 48,765GBP, while the RS4 is priced at 49,980GBP. The bill for the new prototype seems likely to be a tad more.
But then, who would want a car with so much power that they couldn't use? Not PHers, surely?

The latest Automobile magazine on the stands does a comparison between a CLS55 and M6 illustrating the differences in how each engine builder chooses to design and build their engines as well as road testing the vehicles. What was interesting to note is the special section dedicated to upcoming AMG models being released and the 'C' was not mentioned, only (if I recall correctly) R63, ML63, CLS63 and CLK63.

What do you mean by Distronic grille? I thought the distronic stuff was located in the rear view mirror housing.

I don't know the truth or fallacy of this, has anyone else read such reports??

Thanks for the info. I bet the fuel tank stays as 52litre
I prefer a 'W204' with newer technology (from the S) and a bigger fuel tank to go with any larger displacement and power than C55, not just a new engine. But it is surely very encouraging!!

That might be a good news as C55 will the last in its class and the value will go up. I better keep its milege low and chew every bit of its taste.
