the 5 liter V8 in the 550 is on the way out. The 3.5 liter twin turbo develops 300hp (rumored to develop more). A new 410 hp V8 that will debut in the 7 series will be the new top non M BMW v8. IMHO the 550 is a bad buy. I would go with the 535 if I wanted a 5 series
Between the two choices 550 or c63....I would go c63 every time

2007 Corvette Z06/2011 BMW M3
Two totally different cars. That being said, my brother owns an 05 545 sport. Not exactly a 550, but as close as they get. First of all, it handles amazing for a large heavy sedan. No mercedes can compare to the handling characteristics of a BMW. Thats a given. Its not the actual numbers, but the feel and confidence inspiring feeling it gives the driver. The C63 is obviously faster, but if you're looking for an every day sedan that can handle well, have plenty of power, and is comfortable to drive, the 550 sport will be a good choice.
I suggest to go test drive one.

i think a C63 is a great fast car. if you're looking for a luxury sedan, i would go for a the 550. its definitely not going to be as fast as the 63, but if i had the choice i'd get a bmw 550.

I am a huge fan of the C63. (have a deposit to get the first in my area) But based on your question I think you should also consider an M5. An M5 is not much more than a loaded 550 and will have the nimbleness you speak of and will still be very fast. The C class had always had a pretty non existent back seat. The new ones are a little bigger but if this is a factor then I think the E/5 would be a better fit for you.

Keep in mind, AMG's depreciate pretty big. Are you willing to take the hit?[/QUOTE]
if you picked up a C63 the day it hit the dealers in the US and kept if for a year or less you would be fine in terms of depriciation

Thanks for the replies guys
In the C632 VS RS4 Vs M3 C&D comparo, it was mentioned that ride was harsh on the C63. Of course ride quality is subjective to some extent but I am not sure how harsh it is
Lexus is-f is pretty harsh from reviews expecially the bumpy ride on smooth surfaces and the up down suspension movement ( jiggly ride , something like pss9 on the hardest setting )
I am very familiar with how Porsche Cayman/911 ride and I found porshaa ride although stiff pretty comfortable and I am guessing c63 would be simialr to that

550 or c63. i would go with c63. if it's 535 and c63, i would go with 535 for the price. u can always tune it using vishnu's piggy back to get the same performance as with 550. 5 series will be redesigned soon. go with the C63 or e550 or better yet, e63

get some M6 rims, drop it and Vishnu V2 ..
don't bother modding the 550.. too much $$
in regards to the C63..stiff ness or ride quality..
just upsize the tires.. its wearing skinny tires for the rim sizes..
8" up front
and 9" rears..
if you look at the specs. you will notice the tires should be 245/40 265/35instead of 235/40 255/35

if the c63 is anything like the e55's were, your statement is a vast exaggeration.

Acura MDX
LOL never thought I'd hear a car like the C63 be classified as "fast enough for road use". What the heck kinda traffic are you in? A C350 is more than "fast enough" C63 is fast enough for hella good fun.

08' BMW E92 Coupe
I love the BMW 550 sport. Looks almost identical to the M5 minus the quad exhaust. My cousin and aunt have the 535i sport and they are fun to drive. It's nice having a larger roomy car without sacrificing much on the sporty end. I'm sure I would be more than happy with the performance and handling of the 550 if I enjoy driving the 535 so much. I say go with the BMW. 550i sport in white is hott!!!

just a FYI, the person who suggested 535 might have a good point. i forgot which auto mag it was, but they said difference in speed and acceleration between the 535 and 550 werent significant, + you kinda get better gas milage

piggy back with AA or Vishnu
BMW M6 19's with nice thick rubber (keep the 17's as spare rims)
and leave suspension stock
=======================
softer suspension is ideal for the family trips and for launches from a digg.

I think that was car and driver. I think that BMW 3.5 turbo is a gem. I am considering a 135 as a runabout car when they come out. 300hp in a car smaller than a 3 series!!!!
