C63 Ride quality

So most of us have read that the C63 seems to be a bit harsh when it comes to ride quality. Speaking for those of us that don't intend on tracking the car and use it as a daily driver, I'm getting a bit concerned that the car will not be tolerable for my intended use.

Although the intent of the C63 was certainly not meant to be "practical" in terms of performance etc. etc., I was under the impression that it still would be comfortable to drive every day.

Heck, the people I know who own 911's and even the Carrera S are driving their's to work with little complaint. It seems hard for me to believe that the C63 (even with the performance pack) would be harsher than the Carrera S .

Although it's purely speculative at this point, from all that you folks have read, could the C63 actually be a less comfortable daily driver than a Carrera or similar.

Like everybody else here, I take what the journalists say with a grain of salt but I must say that I'm getting a bit worried since I am #2 on the waiting list here in Austin, TX and our roads are nothing like those in Germany.

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

I wouldn't worry about what the journalists said about the C63 ride quality. I have coilovers on my C32 + 19" wheels, and drive the car everyday without complaint. Although I have never driven a Carrera S before, I really doubt the C63 will be harsher than my car.

this is the 3rd time I will write this.. "getting the word out"

swap the tires to +1

235/40 to 245/40

355/35 to 265/40 or wider if space is available.

the rims are 8" and 9" rears

MB could have solved the harsh suspension issue with electronic adaptive suspension, but that would have pushed the price into unreasonable territory for the C class. There is no cost effective way for MB to offer adaptive dampers and ABC on the C.

yeah it may ride around like garbage when you are stuck on bad pavement and the tires will make it handle like a dog on carpet when it is cold.....but in the right moment when all the factors are aligned, nothing else will please, trust me!!!

p.s> comfort is relative to what you are used to. Some people find the SLK55 completely acceptable in terms of harshness. Having had a nother cushier vehicle (GL in the past and anticipating a S now) I would not want to be in the 55 for a highway trip for 3 hours on bad pavement.

I would pontificate this too much. Remember that these same journalists are also testing cars from Kia and chevy. It is stiff but not harsh I am betting.

The ride of the C63 has been heavily criticised. But look at this review at launch.

"In the dry, on smooth roads, the C63 is magnificent. There’s decent steering weight and loads of information seaming through it. The suspension hunkers down to provide wonderful stability and big levels of confidence in high speed corners.

For all its inherent tautness, the ride is perfectly acceptable even on heavily pockmarked sections of bitumen, with excellent rebound control helping to quickly quell any nasty vertical movement. The front end is superbly damped, too, allowing the C63 to track faithfully without too much unsettling movement over bumps. Before long you find yourself making big demands on the chassis, marvelling at the directness and body control."

And all this from whom?
