now what do you prefer 200 hp VeeDub at 8 ms DSG - OR 450 hp AMG at 100 ms. 0-60 time you'll save less than 1/10 sec. still need to find 20 x that (or so) haha

Haha, for the money, the GTI is tough to beat as an all around car. I am impressed with DSG because it's been around for a few years, and because it offers two useful auto settings along with a full on manual. About time AMG upped the ante with their gearbox. I laugh when people moan about them "giving up" the horsepower wars...the motors are beyond solid performers, while the gearbox is the weak spot.

You can get 8 ms downshifts too, you just need to actually press the gas and then manually downshift.
Downshifting multiple gears is a problem, especially going from even to even or odd to odd (eg, 3 to 1 or 6 to 4), I believe it actually take more than a SECOND!! I think this is one of the reasons why serious performance cars like Ferrari don't like to use it. Not even Porsche, who made the first DSG decades ago and who now owns VW.

Imagine what 450 would be like with a DSG. They say that the 200HP GTI can "gain" the equivalent of 30HP with DSG in a drag race, that's 15%!!

Yes, now that I think about it, the European Audi S3 also uses a true DSG. NO idea what the website is saying then.

what about it? did you notice it's equipped with a $1.6M price tag? for than kinda money i need the car to drive itself, give me a blow job, a massage and balance my check book at the same time. forget dsg, that's the least you should expect for $1,600,000.00

Due to the reduction in shift times and the uninterrupted power flow from one gear to the next, a 200HP GTI will have the same drag times as a 230HP similarly weighed car with a normal transmission.

Notice how when he changes gears, the car stops accelerating due to loss in power, the speedo actually stops moving for a fraction of a second. The interruption in power adds up when on the track, when you're doing many gear changes. This is why DSGs are not allowed in racing!![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Here's a Veyron:

Very little interruption in power, maybe acceleration slows for a bit, but definitely doesn't stop.
Edit: take the Veyron stuff with a grain of salt, I just found out that it's actually not 8ms shifts.
