2008 Jeep SRT8 NOW ... C63 IN MAY!
My 700 Mile Road Test is Fast Approaching ...

Well, my excitement is growing in anticipation of my delivery date. The car is scheduled to arrive to the 2nd to 3rd week of May. No later than 5 days after driving my new iridium silver beast off the dealer's lot, I will be making a 701 mile (according to Google Maps) trip from Washington, DC to Chicago. I have made this trip in the past; three times in three different cars: a Land Rover LR3 (2005), a Range Rover Sport Supercharged (2006), and early this year, a brand new Jeep Cherokee SRT8 (Chicago to DC). I always drive it straight through - only stopping if necessary. Typically, the trip takes 12 hours. I have a feeling this year will be faster. You become very aware of a car when driving for 12 hours straight; keen to its character and mannerisms. A true, high performance, long distance, Jeremy-Clarkson/Top-Gear-esque road test - within my first week of ownership. Now only if I could find someone to fly a prop plane and race me ...

Are you travelling up through Pennsylvania and then across to Chicago? If so, some of those moutains will definitely give you a good feel of how the car is setup. I've made the trip myself. Good luck, godspeed (should be easy) and drive safely!

If you are in DC, what dealership are you getting it from? Is it in Maryland or Virginia?

I am getting the car from EuroMotorcars in Bethesda. I went into HBL and told them I wanted a C63 - they told me they required a $5000 non-refundable deposit to reserve a car they have on order. Having never heard of such a high (and non-refundable) required deposit, I called around to other dealers. Euro had 2 cars on order, one of which was to my ideal specifications. So I put the $2k REFUNDABLE deposit down and am awaiting delivery!

HBLs first car isn't spoken for as of Tuesday. The guy who ordered it backed out. They are supposed to call me when it comes in next week. Its Black on Black. Sticker is $65K.

I don't have a Cessna 172 to race you with, but I'm a local resident and I'd be glad to let you thump my M3 a couple of times on the way out of town. Or maybe I can find a Veyron or Eurofighter or something similar for you to race. How about one of my large scale model trains?
