Tire install pricing question...
I'm finally going to get tires mounted onto my 19" 16V spoke AMG wheels next week, and after much debating, decided to go with Yokohama Advan Sport for tires.
I am going with a 235/35 up front and 265/30 in the rear. I ordered them through Discount Tire, and trying to see if I actually got a decent, or even average deal?
Basically they were charging $312 and $342 for front and rear. I asked if they could match TireRack at $277 and $309 and they said yes but they would need to include shipping to the price and installation. Plus I would have to pay 9% sales tax here in WA.
So long story short, for tires and installation including removing TPMS sensors from original wheels, the total w/ tax comes out to $1550. They said the shipping charges were $60, so from TireRack total = $1232. Since I'm buying local, add $130 for sales tax = $1362, so basically I'm being charged $200 for mount/balance, TPMS removal and installation, etc.
Does this seem right?

Discount Tire has a set fee for mounting and balancing, I think. Get the TR price for the tires AND shipping. Also, get the road warranty price from TR as well. Then Discount will usually match everything (or beat it), leaving the tax and set installation price for the grand total. You may want to check with Discount Tire Online, because those prices are sometimes better.
Be sure the manager supervises the install because Discount Tire can be careless with your rims. Good luck!

You may save a few $$$ if you try General tires.
I have them on my car and I am impressed with the price, look, and performance so far. I used to go for the brand name stuff and I could not tell the difference except paying much more for it.
BTW, I have heard that Continnental makes these General tires...so they are not totally cheap tires....just the name only.

I pay $20 for each wheel including waste, valve, mounting, balancing and TPMS on a 19" with 235 and 265. I admit that $20 is a really good deal, but $200 is insane!!!
Why would you not go with tirerack and have the tires mounted at a tirerack recommended shop with a good price. This is how I found my location with the $20 and couldnt be more happy because service and price is much better than MB and Audi in my area.
