HMMMMM Looks like M3 are not selling good at all
BMW M is having record sales with the launch of the E92.
Too bad you don't have any figures to back up your claim other than your OPINION of the way the E9x series looks.
By the way, pull your head out and see that economic slowdown will affect the industry as a WHOLE.
You would rather try and tie the economy to the M3 though, could you be any more blatant?

Notice your article quotes BMW Germany sales to US DEALERS not people
thats why there are M3s on lots all over the US and not in garages or on
storage lots in Munich. BMW sold those car to US DEALERS right before the economy hit the toilet.
My little BMW dealer in Bakersfield had 7 COUNT SEVEN on the lot and they cant get rid of them. When I dropped off my X5 for service awhile ago I told my salesguy there (a good friend) that I was picking up a C63. He offered me a M3 at invoice without even a battle. So I would have ended up with one less than inovice with BMW trunk money because I know the 08s they have have sat for more than 90 days there. So BMW throws money at those that sit there. Thats how I buy my BMWs including my wifes 335. I asked him why M3 sales are so slow because the manager there, a friend of mine also told me he was getting no more than 4 M3 s for 08. He said the market just went dead before the M3 came out. It was so bad that they got extra allocations from the big dealers who had buyers backing out by the bunch. The whole market was is going south. I could get a M6 for 25K off.
But for the M3, a car that has substandard brakes, less power and alot less torque than the AMG C63 its just not a very good situation. Even with the end of the Audi RS4 the M3 isnt the best on the market infact you could say its not even the best on its own lot. The 335i turbo is almost as good at 20K less. Same substandard brakes but you can upgrade and chip the car and have 17K left for upgrading the suspension on your 335i that now has more power than the M3. Overall just not a good situation for the M3.

Not units SHIPPPED, units SOLD:
No less than14,589 BMW M3 models were sold already 14 months after the start of production; of these, 11,485 were sold between January and August of this year alone. The number of new BMW M3 models sold in the first year of production was nearly double that of the predecessor model at the same time in its lifecycle. The BMW M3 convertible on sale since spring 2008, of which nearly 2,300 units, and the Sedan launched shortly before, of which about 1,750 units were sold, made a significant contribution towards the overall success of the BMW M3.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
BMW dealership and BMWNA are separate entities. cars on the dealer lot are BOUGHT by the dealership from BMW. Factory of course will support dealers by giving them credits and loans to buy inventories and these inventories are considered SOLD even tho not sold to the end consumer. It is easy for manufacturers to play with numbers on how they want their sale to be seen.
There are more M3s sedan/coupe/convertibles at each dealership than EVER. they're just sitting there with dealer incentives all over them. unlike the IS-F and C63 which has much less production volume. even if they aren't sold that well you still won't see a lot of them sitting on dealer lots.

You are going by what numbers? The sales figures say the E92 is far more successful than the E46 already.
My local MB dealership has 5 C63's sitting (Caliber), does this mean the C63 isn't selling well? The economy is slow as a whole, the M3 has nothing to do with the state of the US economy and the mortgage crisis.
You really have to reach to somehow make that correlation. EVERYTHING is slow right now.
thats what my Friends at the BMW dealer told me too.
That's jst me though.
plus with the 08 335 in the garage I dont need another E90 series in my garage.

I do really love M5s though..
Sticky Youre absolutely correct. The whole market is down. I think the only reason the M3 is not selling as good as the C63 is because the M3 was launched and just hitting dealers lots as things were breaking down. The C63
has really just hit the market. It will probably cool off too. Yea and I am sure that the other Mercedes models are slow too. The C63 was the only kinda new and hot thing AMG and mercedes had. Probably before things hit the deck and after hit things hit the deck. But I can tell when things arent cool by talking to my local BMW dealer. I have bought 5 cars from them.
Yes I agreed the C63 is faster and sound better. But the M3 is not bad looking at all IMHO. Its high reving engine and agility is fun in its own right.
BTW I do get a lot of compliment from people at the gas station and parking lots.
Cheers
Yes~! If I had to choose btw an M3 / 335I, I would go with 335I. This is jst my opinion.

yes the world wide economy is slow and if you read carefully what I said I said the C63 and IS-F are equally slow selling, but because of the lower total production volume you won't see a lot of them. At Shelly BMW there was 4-5 M3 sedans and coupes and convertibles. Don't forget one of the main reason the new M3 sell more car in it's first year than the previous generation is because BMW finally rolled out the sedan, coupe, and convertible all at the same time. When E46 M3 came out the first year...all they had for sale was the coupe. with triple the model line and double the production volume of the new car I would've expect the sales to triple, not just nearly double.
if you agreed everything is slow selling right now. what was your point in bring up the M3 wasn't slow selling?

I agree, I would not pay over invoice for any car right now. Doesn't make sense. I would ask the dealer, Do you want to sell the car or keep it on your lot?
