Washing Wheels

What is out there to help with the wheels, i had some spray i used to use on a set of racing hart i have on my G35 and with my pressure washer that thing would clean everypart of the wheel, inside and out. because of the spce between the rotor and the wheel you can see the build up pretty good. you an get your hand in some areas but not near the calipers - what is everyone else doing about this?

All you really need to effectively wash wheels is a bucket, dish washing detergent, a good wheel brush, and a pressure hose. Fill the bucket with a liberal amount of detergent and warm water. First blast the wheel with a stream of water, then coat every nook with generous layers of lather. Let it sit for a few minutes, then thoroughly rinse the wheel. Repeat for all four. Re-lather as necessary depending on how dirty the wheel is.

Here is the result!

Another caution, don't use the strong chemcial wheel cleaners because they're make other things in your wheel well get ugly. They are too strong.

meguiar's makes something called "hot wheels" or something like that. it's made for both painted, polished, and chrome wheels. i've used that stuff for years- it works really well. just don't use it on a hot wheel. spray it on and hose it off.

I'll second that if they are really dirty. Or you can use Eagle One All Wheel and Tire Cleaner. Never let it stay on the wheels for more than 60 seconds. I usually take my wheels off about every third wash and clean each entire wheel, tire, fender well and caliper. Then I use Wheel Wax on both sides of each wheel. After that, you should just be able to spray them off once a week and clean them with car wash soap that does not remove wax.

I just use the same thing I wash the car with in a separate bucket. Gold Class car wash by Meguiars.

For what it is worth, I just bought a refrigerator brush from Walmart for $3.50. It is perfect for getting between calipers and wheel. The brush looks like this. http://www.myfullerbrush.com/coil-brush.htm

Porsche sells a kit for about $60.00 but all you need is this brush and wheel cleaner, and a regular wheel brush.

On the more delicate paint job, I too would be wary of applying dishwasher detergent. But for cleaning off brake dust on clear coated wheels, the detergent does an excellent job.
