Tele aid and the phone

This is something I dont understand besides Mandarin Chinese.
(btw the way BMW does the same thing)
Mercedes goes to all the trouble to put Phone electronics in the car. All of the system requirements are there to make a phone call to Mercedes Tele Aid without your cell phone. Push a button call made-that simple.

My question is why not just put a phone in, give the customer a choice of services(Verizion, At&T whoever) and a new #?
Everything is there, systemwise. To me as an engineer, that just doesnt make a whole lot of sense.
The rational is probably the speed of which cell technology changes the automaker doesnt think it can keep up with the tide, but my 06 BMW X5 stuff still works. Push a couple buttons on the dash, make a phone call.
Seems to me on cars at this level the option should be available.

I know this has failed in the past with phones on the dash but just leave all that stuff IN the dash and everything operable from the wheel or the dash pushbutton pad.
