172 miles check engine light

Love the car but I got a check engine light today. Picked it up last Thursday and have put 170 miles on the car. Did not think I would be back to the dealer in less than a week! The car runs fine so I hope it is a minor issue.

Indeed - mine was in service at 85 miles, and 22 hours old. If you get a "purge valve" error code, there are a number of threads here about it.

Disconnect the Negative (-) terminal on the battery for 15 minutes, re-connect it and drive it for awhile at 55 mph or so. That should clear the CEL. Many of these problems are due to the cars sitting for a long time without a proper battery charge.

What I like!
I wouldn't try to clear any codes until the dealer reads them.

I had a CE light at 60 miles. Car drove fine. Was a cam position sensor. 3700 miles now, no further problems. Good luck!

I have a code reader for my own comfort about these things
$100 at autozone. Then you can know before the dealer tries to lay some crap on you.

Where do you live? You could borrow mine

Paul,

Thanks for the offer on the code reader but I am in the Washington DC area so it might be a little out of your way to drop of the reader!

Picking up the car today. The check engine light was for a diverter valve which must be ordered from germany (part of the emissions system). The error codes were 0814 and 0810. The dealership performed an acutuator test which also indicated a leaking hose at the air pump which needed to be reclamped. Car is good to drive while waiting on the diverter valve. I think these cars are getting a little too complex!
