Command hard drive
Might be pushing the envelope here, but has anyone successfully replaced the hard drive from the Command system with a larger drive? In theory it shouldn't be that difficult to clone the old drive and put that on a new, larger drive, but the trick is going to be hacking the OS to allow allocation of more than the paltry 6 GB of space for music files. I would love to have 140 GB or so available for music and video files to play through Command.
TIA

Well unlike BMW that uses Winblowz CE to run the iDrive system, I believe if I am not mistaking, Mercedes Benz uses a Unix based system, and I don't see why it wouldn't accept any larger of a hard drive. Now the question is whether they use Solid State Drives or the normal Spinners..

The hard drive is larger than 6GB, that just happens to be the amount allocated to media storage. It might very well be an ssd. I might do some checking on the MB parts through the local dealer parts dept to see what the drive is.

Can we get clarification on that? The C63 is not a "calm" vehicle, so having a Hard Disk Drive with a spinning platter doesn't seem like viable solution, unless if they find a way to fully dampen the HDD from shock waves that are constantly created. Having a 48GB SSD is possible.. but then if someone could shed some light on this, it would be awesome!

It's a 40gb hard drive. Also, COMAND NGT2.5 is supposed to be WinblozCE, not that I've had one to play with on the bench.

I open the bottom compartment of NTG2.5 and found the HDD, it looks pretty the same 2.5" HDD in the laptop except it specially made for car.
Can it be replaced by another larger capacity of the same kind (made for car)?

I see no reason why it couldn't be replaced with a larger drive as long as you went with one made for the car environment. The tricky part is that the drive must be partitioned properly and I think the current drive needs to be removed, unlocked and then cloned to the new drive. There is extensive discussion on this in the Mitsubishi forums and I think one of the guys there that has been instrumental in doing this work has joined the forum here. (On the Mitsu forum it looked like Otaku was the user name for the person that was instrumental in doing this. Also there was a user Rcostin that seemed heavily involved)

i've used it but i haven't transferred much music. sometimes it doesn't allow me to transfer music from CDs because they are formatted in MP3 as opposed to .wav files so it's just a pain for me to change the extension of the music. has anyone been able to transfer music using the memory slot?
