Countermeasures now in place
I finally found some time to hardwire the V1 and install the Laser Interceptor. I decided to pull the switched 12 volt from the glove box power source. I just dropped the glovebox and was able to get to the wiring behind it and tap into the 12 volt source there, running a line over to the driver side lower dash area. I mounted the V1 interface there as well as the CPU for the LI. Grounding was a short run to a bolt on the kickwell area. I found an easy route through the firewall for the wires from the LI heads by going through the engine compartment fuse box. The heads themselves are mounted behind the front grille with a clear sightline ahead. The install was relatively painless and now I can let the beast loose with a little less fear of getting tagged by our friends in blue.![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
I'm thinking of disabling the laser covereage on the V1 to avoid those annoying false alerts from the infiniti laser guided cruise controls. The LI is much better at only reporting real police laser. What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Mike

Laser Jammer

they are quite cool and legal in texas. This latest laser jammer is the mother of all jammers. I have the laser pro park (not as good but purchased two years ago) and I live in texas.

Yes, as mentioned by wonsuk_utmb, they are perfectly legal in TX. I got tagged with laser about 8 months ago in my M5 and ordered the LI the next day. It has saved my butt numerous times. Removed it from the M5 as I'm selling it and installed it on the C63.
LI & LPP are the two best jammers out there because they use mil spec diodes rather than the less expensive and less powerful LEDs for transmitting.

I don't know about install costs as I did my own install. The LI is around $700 for the 2 head unit (front protection). I would estimate install cost at around $300 as it should only take 2 - 3 hours tops for a good install.

Radars are illegal because of the frequencies used. They are protected by the Feds in the FCC. Laser however is light!!! Therefore its not regulated by anything and quite legal to use. However some states like California have passed laws against laser jammers. So they are legal in SOME states but not others. BUT its impossible to detect. I am curious how its mounted and is it detectable and would an officer know its installed on our C63? the Grill looks PERFECT for a non detectable
instrument installed in my grill?
if someone could help I would be grateful if someone could help with
that and and what are the penalty would be if you got caught.

No radar jamming. Radar jammers are illegal in all 50 states as far as I know. The V1 gives me plenty of warning for radar encounters, but with laser it is simply saying "pull over and get your checkbook out.)
The LI on the other hand gives me time to slow down and then hit the kill switch so friendly Mr officer can get a reading once I'm at the limit or below. (They get a bit of a funny look if you get too close and they still can't get a reading on you.)
I don't know about install costs as I did my own install. The LI is around $700 for the 2 head unit (front protection). I would estimate install cost at around $300 as it should only take 2 - 3 hours tops for a good install.

Interesting rear set up! not too stealthy, but mounted for optimum protection!! Any chance we can get a group buy for a 4 head LI set up organized? I'd be interested!!

qship5, did you tuck the wire from the V1 up under the headliner and down the pillar? If so, any tips for concealing the wire?
Also, you said you were able to access the engine compartment through a hole located inside the fusebox. After you ran the wires through the firewall into the fusebox, how did you route the wires outside the fusebox? Did you have to drill a hole in the lid? Thanks.

As far as the wires for the LI, there is no need to drill any holes. I fed the wires into the fusebox through the grommet where the factory wires from the engine compartment go in and fed it through the factory conduit at the rear of the fusebox to get through the firewall. You will need to cut the RJ11 connectors off the LI head wires to do this. Make sure you have the right tools to put new connectors on and also make sure you note the orientation of the wires within the RJ11 connector. Attaching the connectors with the wires reversed can fry your heads and is not covered by the warranty.
